A weight system for a putter type golf club that creates a balance point close to a golfer's hands when the putter is used in a normal manner for execution of a putting stroke. The putter is formed of a putter head, an elongated, constant inch diameter solid metal shaft; and a weighted, cylindrical adapter attached to an upper section of the elongated shaft between an overlying golf grip and the shaft.

A golf club includes a head; a shaft having a tip end and a butt end; a grip; and a weight member that is located in a butt end region having a distance from a butt end of the grip of less than or equal to 100 mm. The grip and the weight member constitute a grip-weight portion. The shaft, the grip, and the weight member constitute a shaft-grip-weight portion. The shaft has a weight Ws of less than or equal to 40 g. The shaft has a flex point ratio of less than or equal to 50%. The grip-weight portion has a weight W2 of greater than or equal to 40 g. A ratio W1/W3 of a weight W1 of the butt end region to a weight W3 of the shaft-grip-weight portion is greater than or equal to 0.40.

A golf club comprises: a golf club shaft extending from its first end to second end in its axis direction; a golf club head attached to the second end of the golf club shaft; a grip attach to the first end of the golf club shaft and having a grip end; and a weight member attached to the golf club shaft. The specific gravity of the weight member is 2.5 or more. The length of the weight member is 20 mm or less. The weight member is disposed in a grip-end portion of the golf club shaft so that a mass distribution in the axis direction of the grip-end portion has a local maximum occurring at a position within the grip-end portion, wherein the grip-end portion is defined as extending from the grip end toward the second end by 40 mm in the axis direction.

A golf club includes a tubular club shaft having first and second ends, a weight member, and a grip attached to the club shaft. The weight member includes a weight main body made of metal and a cover formed by rubbery elastomer. The weight main body includes a first end face, a second end face, and an outer side face extending between the first and second end faces. The cover includes a side cover portion covering an entire region of the outer side face of the weight main body, a first end cover portion covering the first end face, and a flange. The weight member is installed to the club shaft in such a manner that the side cover portion is located in a space of the club shaft and that the flange engages with the first end of the club shaft outwardly of the club shaft.

A golf club includes a head; a shaft; and a grip. The head has a weight Wh of greater than or equal to 195 g. The golf club has a club length Lc of greater than or equal to 45.0 inches. The golf club has a club weight Wc of greater than or equal to 295 g. The golf club has a swing moment of inertia Isw of less than or equal to 547010.sup.3 (g.Math.cm.sup.2). The swing moment of inertia Isw (g.Math.cm.sup.2) is calculated by the following formula (1):

Isw=Wc(Lg+40).sup.2+Ic (1),

where Wc represents the club weight (g), Lg represents a distance (cm) in an axial direction between a butt end of the grip and a center of gravity of the golf club, and Ic represents a moment of inertia (g.Math.cm.sup.2) of the golf club about the center of gravity of the golf club.

The minute projection region is disposed in a first region whose distance in an axial direction from a grip butt end is from 0 mm to 210 mm. Of the grip, a portion from the grip butt end up to 50 mm therefrom has a weight of 10 g or more, and the weight accounts for 39% or more of the whole weight of the grip.
