This invention entails the use of fractal shapes as cores for electromagnets, and a concurrent shape of a fractal for the windings which surround it. The novelty of this invention lies not only with the shaping, but the advantage of such shaping, which includes producing a smaller form factor electromagnet for the same desired magnetic field strength, when compared to a conventional electromagnet. It will be appreciated that a range of devices including electromagnets, based on such fractal shaping, are additionally novel and include but are not limited to solenoid switches, relays, and other devices in which the fractal electromagnets are used to make a change in state of some device.

INDUCTOR COOLING

An inductor is proposed that comprises: a magnetic inner core, a coil wound around the inner core, and a heat conductor arranged within the inner core and accessible from outside the inner core and the coil for conducting heat from the inner core to outside the inner core. The inner core is of a first material having a first thermal conductivity and the heat conductor is of a second material having a second thermal conductivity that is greater than the first heat conductivity.

STATIC ELECTRIC INDUCTION SYSTEM AND METHOD

A sialic electric induction system is provided. The static electric induction system includes a heat generating electric component; a dielectric cooling fluid; a cooling passage structure along the electric component; and a pump arrangement arranged to alternatingly be controlled in a first mode and in a second mode. In the first mode, the pump arrangement pumps the dielectric cooling fluid to be driven through the cooling passage structure in a forward direction to cool the electric component, and in the second mode, the pump arrangement pumps the dielectric cooling fluid to be driven through the cooling passage structure in a reverse direction, opposite to the forward direction, to cool the electric component. A method of controlling a static electric induction system is also provided.

Cooling magnetic cores with ferrofluid and magnetic cores so cooled

Core-coil devices operate by electromagnetic induction and include inductors, transformers, and electromagnets. Cooled core-coil devices include a magnetic core having a channel through it, and a coil wound around the core. Cooled core-coil devices additionally include a coolant loop that carries ferrofluid coolant through the channel and forms a loop with the channel that extends outside the core. Ferrofluid coolant circulates in the loop without a pump due to a thermo-magnetic response to the device's thermal and magnetic field gradients and thereby cools the core while simultaneously adding to the device's inductance.

Gas-insulated electrical apparatus, in particular gas-insulated transformer or reactor

The present invention relates to gas-insulated electrical apparatuses, in particular gas-insulated transformers or reactors, comprising a housing enclosing an interior space, in which an electrical component comprising a winding is arranged, at least a portion of the interior space defining an insulation space which is filled with an insulation fluid electrically insulating at least a part of the electrical component from the housing. According to the invention, the electrical apparatus further comprises a cooling element comprising a condenser, an evaporator and a cooling fluid to be circulated between the condenser and the evaporator. The evaporator is designed such that at least a part of the electric component is immersed in the cooling fluid in its liquid state, thus being in direct contact with the cooling fluid.
