Hybrid cell design of alternately stacked or wound lithium ion battery and capacitor electrodes
Electrodes are formed with a porous layer of particulate electrode material bonded to each of the two major sides of a compatible metal current collector. In one embodiment, opposing electrodes are formed with like lithium-ion battery anode materials or like cathode materials or capacitor materials on both sides of the current collector. In another embodiment, a battery electrode material is applied to one side of a current collector and capacitor material is applied to the other side. In general, the electrodes are formed by combining a suitable grouping of capacitor layers with un-equal numbers of anode and cathode battery layers. One or more pairs of opposing electrodes are assembled to provide a combination of battery and capacitor energy and power properties in a hybrid electrochemical cell. The cells may be formed by stacking or winding rolls of the opposing electrodes with interposed separators.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING ELECTRODE
Provided is a method for manufacturing an electrode by doping an active material included a layer of an electrode precursor with alkali metal. The electrode precursor and a counter electrode member are brought into contact with a solution containing an alkali metal ion in a dope bath. The counter electrode member includes a conductive base material, an alkali metal-containing plate, and a member having an opening. The member having the opening is located between the conductive base material and the alkali metal-containing plate. The member having the opening is, for example, a resin film having an opening.
Ultracapacitor for Use in a Solder Reflow Process
An ultracapacitor that is capable of exhibiting good properties even after being subjected to high temperatures, such as experienced during solder reflow, is provided. The ultracapacitor contains a housing having sidewalls that extend in a direction generally perpendicular to a base. An interior cavity is defined between an inner surface of the base and the sidewalls within which an electrode assembly can be positioned. To attach the electrode assembly, first and second conductive members are disposed on the inner surface of the base. The electrode assembly likewise contains first and second leads that extend outwardly therefrom and are electrically connected to the first and second conductive members, respectively. The first and second conductive members are, in turn, electrically connected to first and second external terminations, respectively, which are provided on an outer surface of the base.

A purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing, etc., a member for an electrochemical device in which the problem of irreversible change in the composition of the electrochemical device due to solvent depletion, moisture absorption, etc., during manufacturing of the electrochemical devices is unlikely to occur. This method for manufacturing a member for an electrochemical device includes performing at least one shaping operation described in the present specification on a shaping material composition that comprises: at least one filler (F); a plasticizer (P-S), being water, an ionic liquid, or a mixture thereof; and a polymer (P1), the shaping material composition being substantially free of an organic solvent and having plasticity and self-supporting property.
Electrode coated with a film obtained from an aqueous solution comprising a water-soluble binder, production method thereof and uses of same
A method of preparing an electrochemical electrode which is partially or totally covered with a film that is obtained by spreading an aqueous solution comprising a water-soluble binder over the electrode and subsequently drying same. The production cost of the electrodes thus obtained is reduced and the surface porosity thereof is associated with desirable resistance values.
