Articles of sports equipment, such as striking implements (e.g., sticks) and wearable articles (e.g., skates, helmets) for playing hockey or other activities, in which at least one of the characteristics (e.g., stiffness) of the articles of sports equipment is adaptable and can be altered during use of the sports equipment, such as by comprising an alterable component coupled to a controller, by comprising an alterable component that is autonomously alterable, and/or by an alterable component that can be altered in response to a command of a remote device.

System and methods for designing and manufacturing bespoke protective sports equipment

A bespoke protective sports equipment to be worn by a player engaged in a sporting activity is provided. The bespoke sports equipment system includes methods for acquiring, storing and processing a player's unique data, namely the anatomical features of the body part against which the bespoke equipment is worn. The systems also includes methods of using the player's unique data to manufacture the bespoke protective equipment with a custom formed internal padding assembly that substantially corresponds to the player's unique data. The system and method allows for the design and manufacture of bespoke protective sports equipment that is purposely designed and manufactured to match the anatomical specifications of the player's body part.

Sports shin guard with cut-resistant sleeve

A protective shin guard includes a floating knee section hingedly attached to a shin section, both sections being formed of one or more hard shell panels. The floating knee section is attached to the shin section by a main padding layer, and a liner is attached beneath the main padding layer. The liner includes an integral cut-resistant calf-sleeve attached along its bottom edge and extending downward. The cut-resistant calf-sleeve is an elastic tubular sleeve formed of a weave of elastic/cut-resistant fibers, e.g., Kevlar and Spandex. The cut-resistant calf-sleeve is long enough to surround both the calf and the ankle. The cut-resistant calf-sleeve also provides a lower attachment feature that combines with an upper 360+ degree attachment strap to provide a better fit that will not shift or come loose during play.

PROTECTIVE APPARATUS WITH GROOVES

An impact force dampening and defusing structure includes a plurality of components arranged in a grid array. A component has a three-dimensional geometric shape that includes an impact receiving surface area and an impact defusing surface area. The impact defusing surface area is larger than, and a distance d from, the impact receiving surface area. The component includes a material composition and, when an impact force strikes the impact receiving surface area of the component and the impact force dampening and defusing structure is in position to protect a body part, the component contributes to reducing pressure on the body part based on the material composition, the distance d, the impact receiving surface area, and the impact defusing surface area.

DUAL FUNCTION HOCKEY STICK BLADE PROTECTOR
20200276486 · 2020-09-03 ·

A flexible cover for a hockey stick blade having an elongated body with an open end and a closed end located at opposite ends of the body. The body is an elongated tube or sleeve with a bend between the open and closed ends. The body also features a break in the body of the cover proximate to the open end thereby producing two flaps or sections of the body at the upper end of the body. Integrated into or attached to the flaps are means to join the two flaps of the cover and seal the break, including a zipper. The portion of the body between the open end and the angled portion (upper portion) is narrower than the portion of the cover between the closed end and the angled portion (lower portion). The upper portion is narrower and shorter than the lower portion.

Deployable segmented sport equipment
10750797 · 2020-08-25 ·

The present invention is a deployable segmented sport equipment for reducing the impact force on sport equipment worn by a user by using deployable panels. The invention has a body defining a recess, and a panel movable within the recess. The panel includes a panel magnetic element capable of being acted upon by a magnetic force. An electromagnet is provided producing an attractive or repulsive magnetic force on the panel magnetic element. A proximity sensing device capable of sensing an object at a distance from the deployable segmented sport equipment is provided with the body. An electronic controller unit receives signals from the proximity sensing device and controls operation of the controllable magnetic element so as to deploy or retract the panel from or into the recess. The panel being deployed prior to impact with the object, with the repulsive force being controlled to absorb the impact force after impact.

Footwear plate

A plate for an article of footwear includes a substrate, a first strand portion attached to the substrate via first stitching, and a second strand portion disposed on the first layer. The first strand portion includes first segments that each extend between two different locations along the substrate to form a first layer on the substrate. The second strand portion includes second segments that each extend between two different locations along the substrate to form a second layer on the first layer.

Composite plate for an article of footwear or equipment

A method for forming a plate includes attaching a first strand portion to a flexible substrate to form a first layer on the substrate and positioning a second strand portion on the first layer to form a second layer on the first layer in a plurality of discrete regions on the substrate. The method also includes positioning a plurality of traction elements into corresponding cavities formed into a first mold surface and positioning the substrate on the first mold surface to change a shape of the substrate. At least one of heat and pressure is applied to the first strand portion, the second strand portion, the substrate, and the traction elements to conform the substrate to the shape of the first mold surface and form the traction elements into the substrate at each of the discrete regions. The method also includes incorporating the substrate into an article of footwear.
