A lower leg guard device is disclosed allowing a full range of ankle motion, while at the same time preventing impact injuries to the lower leg, including the Achilles area, the ankle, and the shin. The lower leg guard device includes two substantially rigid exterior shells each with a cushioned interior liner. The lower leg guard device can be securely attached to the lower leg with one or more attachment straps, and with at least one floating attachment pad that attaches to the wearer's footwear. A floating attachment pad can be positioned over both the inner side and outer side of the ankle, preferably attached to footwear that covers the ankle. The floating attachment pads are attached to the footwear using removable fasteners, located on the exterior surface of the footwear worn by the wearer, so that the guard device can be quickly and easily put on and removed.

A device that provides support for sailors while hiking from a sailing vessel is disclosed. The device is a pair of sleeves tailored with pockets under each thigh that allow for supporting pads to be inserted in various combinations. The pads are ergonomically designed and can be designed with internal fiberglass battens, or molded plastic, and optionally in shapes that help apply torque to the boat dynamics. The sleeves are designed with one way stretch to optimize grip to the leg, and constructed in a choice of composite materials to aid durability and comfort.

The invention comprises an elastomeric athletic or orthopedic brace, support for a joint complex and is a network of interlinking elastomeric bands that extend radially from a hub member to support a joint in tension but provide for controlled hinging about an axis defined through the hub member. In particular, the brace is provided for an ankle.

A method of making articles of apparel that include a base layer having a first surface and an opposite second surface. The base layer is associated with a thermoplastic polymer element, then an aperture is formed through the base layer and the thermoplastic polymer element. A cushioning elements that may have a first material layer, a second material layer, and a plurality of foam components is positioned proximate the aperture. The first material layer and the second material layer are bonded to the second surface of the base layer. The foam components are located between and secured to the first material layer and the second material layer. In addition, the foam components are positioned to correspond with a location of the aperture.

A display arrangement 10 is to be worn when playing sport. The arrangement comprises a first part 12 in the form of a planar piece 16 of textile material which decal may be applied. A second part 14 in the form of a length of a textile tape 24 is provided which threads through slots 20 in the first part 12 and can be formed into a loop to retain the arrangement 10 on a person's leg.

An article made from an auxetic material, the auxetic material having a plurality of unit structures joined together, is provided. A leg pad (e.g., a hockey leg pad) for protecting a leg of a user, in which the leg pad is designed to enhance protection and freedom of movement (e.g., during skating strides), such as by providing flexibility of the leg pad proximate to a knee and optionally an ankle of the user (e.g., for extension and optional retraction of one or more parts of the leg pad) to better follow natural movements of the user's leg (e.g., bending of the knee and optional flexion of the ankle of the user).

The present invention relates to a hinged leg guard that may be used by catchers in diamond sports like baseball or softball. The hinged leg guard preferably includes a thigh guard, knee guard, shin guard that may be attached to one another by a flexible fabric. The thigh guard and shin guard also are preferably attached to a double hinge member that allows them to move relative to the knee guard. The knee guard also is preferably coupled to the double hinge member. When the hinged leg guard alternates between the extended and contracted position, an extension member of the knee guard preferably translates in one translational degree of freedom within a receiver of the hinge member. The translational movement preferably helps to keep the knee guard adjacent to the knee when a wearer crouches.
