System and method for point on wave closing of a vacuum interrupter

A system and method for point on wave closing of a switching device, where the close initiation point is selected so that a minor current loop is generated that minimizes the accumulated current during the closing operation. The method includes determining bounce characteristic of contacts in the switching device during the closing operation, identifying available close initiation points on a voltage wave for a voltage across the contacts, selecting one or two of the close initiation points on the voltage wave that minimizes the accumulation of current during the closing operation, and closing the switching device using the selected close initiation point.

METHOD FOR ACTUATING AN ON-LOAD TAP-CHANGER, AND ON-LOAD TAP-CHANGER DEVICE

A method for actuating an on-load tap-changer using a control device, a sensor, and a drive is provided. The control device receives a switching command for actuating the on-load tap-changer. The sensor detects a current profile. The control device determines multiple consecutive times for current zero crossings of the current profile and multiple intervals between the multiple consecutive times of the current zero crossings. The control device derives a characteristic variable from the multiple intervals and compares the characteristic variable with a limit value. The control device terminates or pauses the actuation based on determining that the characteristic variable exceeds the limit value and performs the actuation by controlling the drive based on determining that the characteristic variable satisfies or falls below the limit value.

A method of performing a circuit opening and closing operation in a power system including three phases, a three-phase transformer, and a circuit breaker system, the method including a) opening all three phases simultaneously such that a reference current of a reference phase is interrupted first at a first current zero crossing after the opening; and b) closing all three phases simultaneously at a phase to ground voltage of the phase lagging the reference phase by 120, in a time range of 90 from a negative peak of said phase to ground voltage if the current zero crossing is a positive current zero crossing, or in a time range of 90 from a positive peak of said phase to ground voltage if the current zero crossing is a negative current zero crossing.
