10926159 · 2021-02-23 · ·

Continuous or discontinuous steering responses for a lean-to-steer device can be provided by controlling the steering angle of at least one wheel by a steering motor that is operated by a controller. The controller receives signals from a tilt sensor to calculate an appropriate steering angle for the at least one wheel. When a speed sensor is also provided, the controller can calculate a steering angle to match the curve radius of motion to the pendulum angle corresponding to the indicated speed and tilt.

Motorized Skateboard with Pressure-Activated Direct Reverse Steering

A motorized skateboard has a maneuverable rear truck. The riding platform on which the user stands includes a rotatable steering platform that the rider can step on with his rear foot. In the nominal position the steering platform extends slightly above the rest of the riding platform and is locked from rotating. When a user steps on the steering platform, the steering platform gets pushed downward against a spring. The downward movement causes a wedge to force apart two pawl level arms, thus disengaging respective pawls from a ratchet thereby unlocking the steering. In this position the steering platform is rotationally coupled to the rear truck through two spur gears acting in serial such that as the user pivots his foot clockwise, the rear truck turns counterclockwise, and vice versa. The result is a steering motion that is similar to turning a snowboard.

A skateboard device may include a frame, a set of wheels, and a deck. A user or rider may stand on the deck. The deck may be divided into a front panel and a rear panel, on which the user may rest a front foot and a rear foot, respectively. The rear panel may be fixed relative to the frame. The front panel, in turn, may pivot sideways relative to the frame and, in pivoting sideways, may drive a front wheel fork for rotation in order to steer one or more front wheels of the set of wheels left or right. In some embodiments, the skateboard device may include relatively wide, convex, single front and rear wheels facilitating riding the skateboard device not only on hard, flat surfaces but also on other terrains such as, but not limited to, dirt, gravel, etc.

Skateboard suspension

A suspension for a skateboard, comprising a pair of steering knuckles on opposite sides of a chassis frame of the skateboard, a pair of upper control arms connected between the pair of steering knuckles and the chassis frame, a pair of lower control arms connected between the pair of steering knuckles and the chassis frame, and a first spring damper connected between the pair of upper control arms.
