Sampling probe with internal sampling for use in mass spectrometry systems and methods
MS-based methods and systems are provided herein in which a desorption solvent desorbs one or more analyte species from an SPME device within a sampling interface that is fluidly coupled to an ion source for subsequent mass spectrometric analysis. In accordance with various aspects of the applicants teachings, the sampling interface includes an internal sampling conduit that provides increased interaction between the desorption solvent and the sampling substrate, thereby improving mass transfer (e.g., increased extraction or desorption speed).

Methods, systems and devices that provide fluid devices with at least one SPE bed adjacent (upstream of) a separation channel which may be in communication with an inlet of a Mass Spectrometer. A thermoanalysis device, including a controllable temperature regulating device for the controlled change in the temperature of a sample to be investigated, a detection device for the continuous detection of at least one signal characteristic of a property of the sample during the change in the temperature, and a gas analysis device for investigating gases which are liberated from the sample. In order to enable an improved time- and temperature-resolved investigation of volatile components and decomposition products, provision is made according to the invention such that, during the change in the temperature of the sample, the temperature regulating device is controlled according to a control algorithm taking account of the detected signal and/or the gas analysis device is constituted so as to be controllable and is controlled according to a control algorithm taking account of the detected signal.

The present invention discloses a sample injection device for sample collection and sample thermal desorption. The device comprises: a sample collection structure; a piston type adsorber having an adsorption cavity capable of being arranged to be in communication with the sample collection structure; a piston cylinder defining a piston chamber that is configured for accommodating the piston type adsorber and configured to be in communication with the adsorption cavity; a thermal desorption chamber that is configured to be in communication with the adsorption cavity and the piston chamber and is configured to thermally desorb the sample adsorbed in the adsorption cavity; and a pump that is configured to be in communication with the piston chamber via a conduit and is configured to pump a sample diffused in an ambient gas into the adsorption cavity through the sample collection structure, the adsorption cavity being configured to adsorb the sample collected by the sample collection structure; the piston type adsorber is configured to be movable between a sample collecting position where the adsorption cavity is located outside the thermal desorption chamber and in communication with the sample collection structure so as to adsorb the sample collected by the sample collection structure and a sample desorbing position where the adsorption cavity is located inside the thermal desorption chamber so that the adsorbed sample is thermally desorbed in the thermal desorption chamber. There are also provided a method of collecting and desorbing a sample by using the abovementioned device, and a trace detection apparatus.
