The male fastener portion is configured to magnetically fasten to the female fastener portion. The female fastener portion defines a recess with an outer periphery that is asymmetric about a center axis of the recess. The rivet is adapted to be received in a hole located on an upper section of the sandal or regular shoe. The attachment mechanism and system also constitutes an aesthetic component to the footwear.
