One or more of the game piece spaces is designated as game play affecting spaces. Each one of the standard game board pieces carries a respective set of game piece distinguishers. One of the game piece distinguishers of each one of the standard game board pieces is the same as one of the game piece distinguishers of at least one other set of the standard game board pieces. The at least one special game board piece is characterized in a manner distinguishing the at least one special game board piece from all of the standard game board pieces. Each one of the first configuration tokens is characterized in a manner allowing each of the first configuration tokens to be identified as being of a common configuration.

A board game includes a base having a top surface and a bottom surface. The board game further includes a predefined count of first sections disposed on the top surface. Each first section includes a predefined count of second sections, and each second section includes a hole. The board game further includes a predefined count of insert members having a first portion and a second portion. In addition, each game token used in this detection system has a multilayer structure having plastic layers with a plurality of different colors stacked on each other, with a colored layer being provided at least intermediately, and white layers or light-colored layers (not illustrated, but may be any layers lighter in color than the colored layer) being stacked on two sides of the intermediate colored layer.
