Thin aerogel materials
The present invention provides a fiber-reinforced aerogel material which can be used as insulation in thermal battery applications. The fiber-reinforced aerogel material is highly durable, flexible, and has a thermal performance that exceeds the insulation materials currently used in thermal battery applications. The fiber-reinforced aerogel insulation material can be as thin as 1 mm less, and can have a thickness variation as low as 2% or less. Also provided is a method for improving the performance of a thermal battery by incorporating a reinforced aerogel material into the thermal battery. Further provided is a casting method for producing thin fiber-reinforced aerogel materials.

Secondary battery comprising the opening
In the case where a film, which has lower strength than a metal can, is used as an exterior body of a secondary battery, a current collector provided in a region surrounded by the exterior body, an active material layer provided on a surface of the current collector, or the like might be damaged when force is externally applied to the secondary battery. A secondary battery which is resistant to external force is obtained. An opening is provided in a central portion of the secondary battery; and a terminal is formed in the opening. An outer edge of the secondary battery is fixed by thermocompression bonding. In addition, the central portion of the secondary battery is fixed by thermocompression bonding, so that the amount of bending is limited even when the outer edge portion of the secondary battery is bent.
SOLID STATE BATTERY
A solid state battery including a positive electrode layer, a negative electrode layer, and a solid electrolyte layer interposed between the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer, wherein the positive electrode layer includes a positive electrode active material in which a spacing d.sub.003 of a lattice plane (003) is 4.800 Å or more in a charged state at a positive electrode potential of 4.55 V.
Secondary Battery with Anti-Corrosion Layer on Inner Surface of Battery Case
The present disclosure provides a secondary battery in which an anti-corrosion layer of an organic/inorganic mixed layer is formed on a part of an inner surface of the battery case of a cylindrical secondary battery and the battery case of a prismatic secondary battery.
HYBRID COMPOSITE MATERIALS SYSTEMS FOR BATTERY HOUSINGS HAVING IMPROVED THERMAL PERFORMANCE
A hybrid material housing for a battery is provided for reducing or minimizing thermal runaway propagation. The housing includes a composite structure that contains the battery and optionally includes a polymeric matrix selected from the group consisting of: epoxy, phenolic resin, polyester, vinyl ester, and combinations thereof and a reinforcing material selected from the group consisting of: glass fibers, carbon fibers, basalt fibers, aromatic polyamide KEVLAR® fibers, and combinations thereof. A metal layer is disposed along an exterior surface of the composite structure that comprises aluminum, steel, stainless steel, alloys, and combinations thereof. In a first mode, the metal layer contacts the composite structure and in a second mode after exposure to a thermal load of greater than or equal to about 500° C., the metal layer at least partially delaminates from the exterior surface and forms insulating air gaps to define a thermal barrier. Methods of forming the hybrid material housings are also provided.
Secondary battery
A gel electrolyte and a separator are provided between the positive electrode current collector and the negative electrode current collector. The plurality of positive electrode current collectors and the plurality of negative electrode current collectors are stacked such that surfaces of negative electrodes with which active material layers are not coated or surfaces of positive electrodes with which active material layers are not coated are in contact with each other.
Lithium Accumulator With A Two-Layered Thermally Insulating Package And With A Heat Pipe For Thermal Management
Lithium electrochemical accumulator including at least one first package housing at least one electrochemical cell, said first package including at least: one internal thermally insulating layer suitable for confining, to the interior of a first package, the heat given off even in case of abnormal operation of a cell C and for protecting the cell(s) from heat generated outside the first package; one external layer superposed on the internal layer, the external layer being mechanically strong and fire resistant; and one cooling device including at least one heat pipe the enclosure of which passes through the first package(s) in a seal-tight manner and such that the heated zone of the heat pipe(s) is located inside the first package(s) and that the cooled zone of the heat pipe(s) is located outside the first package(s).
