Various embodiments of the present invention relate to a secondary battery, wherein a technical problem to be solved is to provide a secondary battery capable of maintaining an electrical insulating state between a case (can) and a cap assembly even after a gasket is melted due to short-circuiting and heat generation. To this end, the present invention provides a secondary battery comprising: a cylindrical can; an electrode assembly received, along with an electrolyte, in the cylindrical can; a cap assembly for sealing the cylindrical can; and a gasket interposed between the cylindrical can and the cap assembly, wherein the gasket further includes an insulating member having a melting temperature higher than a melting temperature of the gasket.

The battery cap is welded to an inner surface of the can adjacent to and above the top insulator and includes an outer conductive ring, an insulator ring, and a conductive top plate, wherein the outer conductive ring, the insulator ring, and the conductive top plate are crimped together. The battery cap further includes a conductive rupture plate electrically connected to the conductive top plate and a cathode electrically connected to the conductive rupture plate and extending into the jelly roll. The battery may further include an opening in a central portion of the conductive top plate and a central portion of the conductive rupture plate cover welded upon the opening in the central portion of the conductive top plate.

An insulating plate for a secondary battery includes a wound electrode group, an electrolyte, a cylindrical battery case that houses the electrode group and the electrolyte, and a sealing body that seals an opening of the battery case and includes a discharge valve. The insulating plate is disposed between the electrode group and the sealing body and has a disk shape with a thickness T of 0.1 mm or more. The insulating plate has a first hole formed centrally therein and at least one second hole formed around the first hole so as to extend along the outer periphery of the disk shape. The ratio (=T/D) of the thickness T to a diameter D of the insulating plate is 0.016 or less, and the insulating plate has an opening ratio of 36% or less.

The insulating plate has a first hole formed centrally therein and at least one second hole formed around the first hole so as to extend along the outer periphery of the disk shape. The secondary battery includes: a shell having an opening; an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator; a cap assembly including a cap plate and a first electrode terminal; a lower insulator located at a side of the cap plate away from the terminal board; and a wiring board including a main body portion and an extension portion, wherein the main body portion is located at a side of the lower insulator away from the cap plate and connected to the first electrode plate, the extension portion extends into the electrode lead-out hole and connected to the first electrode terminal, the first electrode plate is electrically connected to the first electrode terminal through the wiring board, and the first electrode terminal does not extend beyond a lower surface of the lower insulator.
