A duct is provided on the support member. The duct is configured to guide gas between the second side plate and the support member into the pressure relief mechanism, so that the pressure relief mechanism is actuated to release a pressure when the pressure reaches a threshold.

The pressure relief apparatus includes a pressure relief body and a score groove. The pressure relief body includes a pressure relief portion configured to be opened to relieve a pressure inside the battery cell when an internal pressure or temperature of the battery cell reaches a threshold. The score groove is arranged on the pressure relief body and includes a first arc-shaped groove and a second arc-shaped groove. The arc-shaped design of the first arc-shaped groove and the second arc-shaped groove makes it less likely that the pressure relief portion cannot be opened in a large area, thereby improving the safety of the battery cell.

A sealed battery, which is an exemplary embodiment, comprises a battery case including a bottomed cylindrical outer can and a sealing body that closes an opening of the outer can, a gasket disposed between the outer can and the sealing body, and an electrode body including an electrode and housed in the battery case. The sealing body includes a metal plate, and the metal plate has a thin portion formed in an annular shape, a valve portion having a convex shape inside the battery case, and an annular portion to which the electrode lead is connected. The gasket is provided with an elastically deformable portion that abuts against the inner surface of the valve portion and urges the valve portion to the outside of the battery case.

The emergency venting spike has a tip or a cutting edge arranged, in a state of rest, at a predetermined distance from a membrane surface of the membrane and can move toward the membrane when the actor is actuated so that tip or cutting edge punctures the membrane. A cover arranged at an outer side of the base body covers the gas passage opening. A fastening mechanism connects cover and base body. The actor has an actuation element for releasing the fastening mechanism.
