Secondary battery

A secondary battery includes an electrode, a positive electrode current collector, a negative electrode current collector, a positive electrode terminal, a negative electrode terminal, and an insulating plate. The positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal each have a main side surface and a sub side surface having an area smaller than that of the main side surface. The positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal are arranged so that the main side surface of the positive electrode terminal and the main side surface of the negative electrode terminal face each other. The insulating plate is arranged between the main side surface of the positive electrode terminal and the main side surface of the negative electrode terminal.

To suppress heat generation in a short-circuit current shunt part in a stacked battery that includes the short-circuit current shunt part, in the stacked battery 100 including at least one short-circuit current shunt part 10, and a stack 20 that includes a plurality of electric elements 20a, 20b which are stacked, the short-circuit current shunt part 10 includes a first part 10a that is provided on one end side in a stacking direction of the stack 20, a second part 10b that is provided on another end side therein, and a third part 10c that connects the first part 10a and the second part 10b; at the first part 10a, the first current collector layer 11 and the cathode current collector layer 21 have an electric connection part 14a but the second current collector layer 12 and the anode current collector layer 25 do not have any electric connection part, at the second part 10b, the second current collector layer 12 and the anode current collector layer 25 have an electric connection part 14b but the first current collector layer 11 and the cathode current collector layer 21 do not have any electric connection part, and at the third part 10c, the short-circuit current shunt part 10 and the stack 20 do not have any electric connection part.

A sealed battery disclosed herein is provided with an electrode body, a battery case, and an insulating holder. Round sections, having a curved surface, are formed between an inner surface and a bottom surface of the battery case. Deformation portions protruding towards the center, in a width direction, are formed on the inner surface of a lower end section of the insulating holder. A lower end section of a positive electrode connection portion and a lower end section of a negative electrode connection portion are press-deformed towards the center, in the width direction, by the deformation portions of the insulating holder. It becomes accordingly possible to suitably prevent short-circuits between the electrode body and the battery case, even when clearances within the battery case are made small and a width dimension of the electrode body is made large. Energy density can be suitably increased as a result.

The insulating tape includes a base material layer, an adhesive layer, and an inorganic particle-containing layer formed therebetween, and the inorganic particle-containing layer contains 20 percent by weight or more of inorganic particles with respect to the weight of the layer described above.

An electrically insulated bottom cell holder is located between the plurality of cells and the housing. The bottom cell holder has a network of positions in which each of the plurality of cells are inserted and held. Each of the positions has an offsetting member that creates a space between the plurality of cells and a first side of the housing.
