Low-cost distributed multifunction radio frequency (MFRF) swarming unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)
11009867 · 2021-05-18 · ·

A multi-function radio frequency (MFRF) system may deploy groups of small or micro-sized unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to achieve various MFRF functions and mission objectives. Each member UAS may incorporate structurally integrated/embedded, conformal/appliqu, or mechanically deployable antenna elements, or may utilize characteristic mode transducers to excite conductive exterior surfaces of the UAS, such that each UAS may maximize its limited size or surface area to emit MFRF radiation according to a variety of MFRF operating modes. Member UAS may be fashioned by three-dimensional additive manufacturing (3DAM) techniques. Each UAS may coordinate their positioning and MFRF emissions with other member UAS to collectively form synthetic apertures and swarms capable of MFRF functionalities not achievable by a single UAS. UAS swarms may form new subswarms or dynamically reconfigure depending on changing mission objectives or battlefield conditions.

Antenna structure and wireless communication device using same

An antenna structure includes a metallic member, a feed portion, and a coupling resistor. The metallic member defines a slot, a first gap, a second gap, and a third gap. The first gap and the second gap are connected with the slot and divide with the slot the metallic member into a first portion and a second portion. The second portion is grounded. The third gap is defined on the first portion and connected with the slot. The first portion is divided into a radiating portion and a coupling portion by the third gap. The coupling portion is spaced apart from the radiating portion. The feed portion is electrically connected to the radiating portion, and the coupling portion is grounded through the coupling resistor.

Multi-elevational antenna systems and methods of use

The present disclosure provides systems and methods associated with an antenna system comprising a tension member configured to be towed by an aerial platform. In some embodiments, a first end of the tension member may be secured to the aerial platform and the second end may extend unsecured from the aerial platform at a different elevation than the first end. A plurality of antenna assemblies, each comprising at least one antenna, may be secured to and spaced along the length of the tension member. Each of the plurality of antennas may be adapted for use with a particular frequency or frequency bandwidth. For example, each of the plurality of antennas may be adapted or tuned for one or more frequencies useful for synthetic aperture radar (SAR). In some embodiments, a receiving system, a communication link, and/or an antenna location system may be utilized.
