PHASED-ARRAY RADIO FREQUENCY RECEIVER AND METHODS OF OPERATION

An RF receiver may include antenna elements to receive RF signals, and electro-optic modulators to generate corresponding upconverted optical signals by mixing an RF signal with an optical carrier beam. The RF receiver may include a transmission array having a first bundle of optical waveguides that receive and transmit upconverted optical signals from their ends. The ends may be arranged in a first pattern. The RF receiver may include an interference space to receive the upconverted optical signals to form a composite beam, and an array of single mode optical fibers that have lenses positioned in a detection plane to receive a portion of the composite beam. The first pattern of the ends generates an RF emitter interference pattern at the detection plane, and the single mode optical fiber lenses have a geometric arrangement that corresponds to the first RF emitter interference pattern.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, to a base station, a report indicating that a cooperative reception group including the UE and one or more other UEs connected to the UE over an out-of-band link supports one or more downlink transmit beamforming techniques. The UE may determine, based at least in part on the one or more downlink transmit beamforming techniques supported by the cooperative reception group, a downlink transmit precoder associated with relaxed beamforming nulling. The UE may decode a downlink transmission received from the base station based at least in part on the downlink transmit precoder and one or more decoded bits received from the one or more other UEs in the cooperative reception group. Numerous other aspects are provided.

System and method for transceiver and antenna programmability and generalized MIMO architectures

Embodiments generally disclosed herein relate to a sub-wavelength multi-port codesign approach between the unit transceiver element and the integrated EM interface to enable a generalized broadband MIMO array with individually programmable element patterns. The co-design approach allows processing of radiated signals at the antenna level distinct from classical arrays. The transmitter and receiver architectures with the integrated EM interface are implemented in 65-nm CMOS and have a bandwidth of 37-73 GHz. Wireless links with data rates up to 12 Gb/s are demonstrated across the spectrum with a wide range of reconfigurability of the active EM interface. The multifunctional EM interface and the broadband transceivers can enable future efficient and compact MIMO arrays for reliable links exploiting frequency, spatial, pattern and polarization diversities.
