An elementary microstrip antenna includes a stack of layers, stacked in a direction z, the stack comprising: a first conductive radiating element of disc shape having a first centre, an axis in the direction z and passing through the first centre being called the central axis; a coupling assembly configured to couple an exciting device and the first radiating element, the coupling assembly comprising: a first slot comprising a centre called the slot centre located on the central axis; a second slot comprising a centre coincident with the slot centre, and substantially perpendicular to the first slot, the first and second slots each comprising circularly arcuate ends on the same circle centred on the slot centre; the slots and the stacked layers being configured so that a transverse footprint of the elementary antenna is disc-shaped.
Methods and systems for implementing and operating multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas for radio telecommunications
Methods and systems for implementing and operating antennas, particularly multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antennas. An example antenna may include a planar dielectric substrate, a primary conductive area on a first surface of the planar dielectric substrate, a first secondary conductive area on the first surface, and a second secondary conductive area. The primary conductive area has a shape that defines at least a first region and a second region of the first surface, with the first region bounded by at least a portion of the primary conductive area, and the second region including a remaining portion of the first surface. The first secondary conductive area may lie in the first region of the first surface, and the second secondary conductive area may lie in the second region.
Orthogonally polarized dual frequency co-axially stacked phased-array patch antenna apparatus and article of manufacture
A planar multi-layer assembly method fabricates a dual frequency, dual polarization phased-array antenna. A plurality of vias make up an array of double-walled wells which are connected to a ground plane. A shorted annular ring patch antenna (SARPA) is deposited at the top of each double-walled well. Fabricated coaxially and parallel to each SARPA, is an array of circular patch antennas (CPA). The inner wall of each double-walled well improves isolation of the CPA signals from the SARPA signals. Each SARPA of the array is connected to a pair of first frequency band signal vias and the CPA is coupled to a pair of second frequency band signal vias. Within each frequency band, a plurality of signal phases enable steerable polarized antenna beams.

The antennas in the first antenna ring are each spaced apart by approximately a first distance from a center of the first antenna ring. And the second antenna rings is approximately concentric and coplanar with the first antenna ring, and each antenna of the second antenna ring is spaced approximately a second distance from the center. For example, the antennas of the first antenna ring are spaced apart by half of a first wavelength corresponding to a first frequency of a frequency range over which the antenna array is designed to operate, and the antennas of the second antenna ring are spaced apart by half of a second wavelength corresponding to a second frequency of the frequency range.
