Additive manufacturing of inverse-designed metadevices

A method for creating metadevices includes receiving, at a computing device, one or more boundary conditions for a metadevice. The method also includes processing, with an inverse-design algorithm stored in a memory of the computing device, the one or more boundary conditions to generate a metadevice structure design that satisfies the one or more boundary conditions. The method also includes converting, by a processor of the computing device, the metadevice structure design into a file that is compatible with an additive manufacturing device. The method further includes providing the file of the metadevice structure design to the additive manufacturing device.

A polarizing screen for altering a polarization state of a radio frequency waveform radiated from a parallel plate waveguide (PPW) wherein the waveform has a centre frequency and a bandwidth, the polarizing screen comprising a plurality of developable sheets arranged stacked in parallel to each other in direction of a local normal vector of a first sheet at respective inter-sheet spacings, each sheet comprising an electrically conductive pattern forming a one-dimensional periodic structure of unit-cells in an extension direction, wherein the periodic structure is associated with a height measured orthogonally to the extension direction and orthogonally to the local normal vector of the shat, where each cell comprises an aperture configured to transmit the radio frequency waveform at a predetermined polarization state, wherein the height is determined in dependence of the centre frequency and/or the bandwidth of the radio frequency waveform such that the pre-determined polarization state is provided as well as matching between the PPW and a transmission medium of the radio frequency waveform.

POLARIZATION SHIFTING DEVICES AND SYSTEMS FOR INTERFERENCE MITIGATION

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a polarization shifter including a lower substrate having disposed thereon first and second transmission lines for coupling to a feed network, an upper substrate having disposed thereon third and fourth transmission lines for respective communicative coupling to orthogonally-polarized elements of a radiating element, and a dielectric layer residing between the lower substrate and the upper substrate, the upper substrate being configured to mechanically couple to the radiating element, the dielectric layer coupling the first transmission line with the third transmission line and coupling the second transmission line with the fourth transmission line, the upper substrate being rotatable relative to the lower substrate to effect polarization adjusting for the radiating element to facilitate avoidance of interference or passive intermodulation (PIM). The second polarization is different from the first polarization. The antenna further includes a polarization-modification layer with channels defined therein. The polarization-modification layer is disposed between the waveguide antenna elements and the waveguide output ports. The channels are oriented at a first angle with respect to the waveguide antenna elements and at a second angle with respect to the waveguide output ports. The channels are configured to receive input electromagnetic waves having the first polarization and transmit output electromagnetic waves having a first intermediate polarization. The waveguide output ports are configured to receive input electromagnetic waves and radiate electromagnetic waves having the second polarization.

A unit cell for an antenna comprises a conductive ground plane, a low-band radiator, a pair of high-band radiators, and a conductive partition disposed along an edge intersecting a pitch axis of the conductive ground plane. The low-band radiator comprises a pair of orthogonally coupled dipoles each having a vertical stem portion and an arm portion. Each arm disposed in a plane orthogonal to the conductive ground plane. The arm portions, collectively and on-edge, produce an L-shaped radiator parallel to the conductive ground plane. Each of the high band radiators comprises a pair of cruciform radiators, each cruciform electrically connected to, spaced-apart from, and parallel to the conductive ground plane. The conductive partition isolates at least a portion of the RF energy transmitted by the low and high-band radiators.
