ANTENNA DEVICE FOR AUTOMOTIVE RADAR APPLICATIONS

An antenna device for automotive radar applications including an antenna assembly which comprises a front face in which at least one antenna aperture is arranged, configured to receive an incoming signal in form of primary rays impacting in the at least one antenna aperture. The front face of the antenna assembly further includes adjacent to the at least one antenna aperture scattering elements by which primary rays, impacting an area of the scattering elements, are at least partially reflected by the scattering elements and thereby separated into first secondary rays and second secondary rays, such that the first secondary rays and the second secondary rays cancel out each other at least partially by interference.

Apparatus and methods for reducing mutual couplings in an antenna array

A device is presented for improving radio frequency (RF) and microwave array antenna performance. The device sits in the near field, the reactive region, of the antenna array with a pattern of electrically isolated rectangular, cross-shaped, ell, and/or similarly-shaped patches of flat metal or other conductor in a flat plane. The patches are segmented into smaller shapes no greater than 0.3 of a shortest wavelength of the nominal operating range of the antenna and/or the height of the plane is greater than 0.25 and/or less than 0.4 of the center frequency's wavelength. Mutual coupling S-parameters between neighboring elements are either simulated or measured, and the patch sizes or height are designed such that |S.sub.21.sup.Refl| is in a range of |S.sub.21.sup.Array|?20% of |S.sub.21.sup.Array|; and Phase(S.sub.21.sup.Refl) is in a range of Phase(S.sub.21.sup.Array)+180?30 degrees, where S.sub.21.sup.Array is an S-parameter between antenna two neighboring antenna elements measured or simulated without the device, where S.sub.21.sup.ADS is the same with the device, and S.sub.21.sup.Refl=S.sub.21.sup.ADS?S.sub.21.sup.Array.

Systems and methods are provided for enhancing the electrical performance of ultra-wideband (UWB) electronically scanned arrays (ESA) for use in multifunctional, electronic warfare, communications, radar, and sensing systems. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide designed metal and dielectric elements placed above the arbitrary radiator (i.e., in the superstrate region) to simultaneously aid impedance and polarization challenges. These elements can be compatible with arbitrary antenna element types.

Methods, systems, and devices are described that include one or more septum features to improve performance of a waveguide device. In particular, the septum features may be utilized within a polarizer section of a polarizer device such as a septum polarizers. The septum feature(s) may be a ridge. When a plurality of septum features are employed, the location, size, shape and spacing may vary according to a particular design.

Electronic devices having dielectric resonator antennas with parasitic patches

An electronic device may be provided with a phased antenna array and a display cover layer. The phased antenna array may include a probe-fed dielectric resonator antenna that radiates through the cover layer. The antenna may include a dielectric resonating element that is excited by one or two feed probes. One or more floating parasitic elements and/or grounded parasitic elements may be patterned onto the dielectric resonating element. The parasitic elements may create boundary conditions on the dielectric resonating element that serve to isolate the antenna from cross polarization interference.

A slot array antenna includes a waveguide and a horn. The waveguide has a first surface including multiple slots arranged along a longitudinal direction of the first surface to radiate radio waves. The width of the first surface in the lateral direction is greater than half of a wavelength of the radio waves. The horn, fixedly attached to the waveguide, enlarges towards a radiation direction of the radio waves. The horn has upper and lower portions bent inwards twice with respect to a lateral direction of the first surface to form first and second narrow openings. An opening width of the first narrow opening is less than the width of the first surface. An opening width of the second narrow opening is less than or equal to two fifth of the wavelength. Thus, a side lobe generated due to horizontal polarization of the radio waves is suppressed.
