A communication system includes a plug module having a plug housing and a plug latch and a receptacle module having a receptacle housing and a receptacle latch. The receptacle module includes a receptacle connector with a card slot receiving a plug module circuit board. The receptacle connector includes cables terminated to contacts and extending from the receptacle connector. A receptacle cage includes a front cage interface receiving the plug module and a rear cage interface receiving the receptacle module. The front cage interface matches the rear cage interface including a front latching feature and a rear latching feature interfacing with the plug and receptacle latches.

HIGH-DENSITY EDGE CONNECTOR

A high density edge connector that provides robust operation and good signal integrity. The connector is configurable to have sections tailored for high speed signals, which may be differential, or low speed signals. The connector may be assembled from signal terminals and ground terminals, either of which may be mounted within an insulative housing of the connector at any location along a row aligned with a slot of a mating interface. Shield members or lossy members may optionally be included for high speed segments, either or both of which may be electrically coupled to the ground terminals. Insertion and retention force may be limited, despite a dense array of contacts pressing on a card inserted into the connector by shaping the portions of the signal or ground contacts that act as beams generating that force. Such force may be limited with twists in the beams and/or splitting the beam portions.

A terminal module is provided with a shielded cable including at least one coated wire, a conductive shield portion and a sheath portion for covering an outer periphery of the shield portion; an inner conductor to be connected to the coated wire, a terminal accommodating member made of resin for accommodating the inner conductor; a first outer conductor made of metal and including a tubular portion for accommodating the terminal accommodating member; and a second outer conductor made of metal and including a covering portion for covering a back end part of the tubular portion of the first outer conductor. A narrowing portion is provided in the back end part of the first outer conductor. The terminal accommodating member includes an escaping portion for avoiding interference with the narrowing portion in the process of accommodating the terminal accommodating member into the tubular portion.

BACKPLANE CONNECTOR WITH IMPROVED MOUNTING BLOCK

A backplane connector includes a housing, a number of terminal modules assembled to the housing, and a mounting block. The housing includes a base, a first side wall and a second side wall. Each terminal module includes a first signal terminal and a second signal terminal. The first signal terminal has a first mounting foot, and the second signal terminal has a second mounting foot. The housing includes a receiving groove at a bottom end of the base. The mounting block is received in the receiving groove. The mounting block is made of electroplated plastic. The mounting block has an opening for the first mounting foot and the second mounting foot to extend through. As a result, the backplane connector has a better shielding effect.

MATING MODULE AND CABLE CONNECTOR

A mating module includes a conductive terminal, a cable, a first metal shield member and a second metal shield member. The cable includes a core electrically connected to the conductive terminal, an insulating layer wrapped on the core, and a shielding layer wrapped on the insulating layer. The first metal shield member includes a first mounting piece. The second metal shield member includes a second mounting piece. The cable further includes a protruding piece connected to the shielding layer. The protruding piece is directly or indirectly clamped by the first mounting piece and the second mounting piece. As a result, the shielding effect of the mating module is improved. The present disclosure also relates to a cable connector having the mating module.

A mating module includes a conductive terminal, a cable, a first metal shield member and a second metal shield member. A backplane connector assembly includes a first backplane connector and a second backplane connector. The first backplane connector includes a number of first conductive terminals, a first metal shield and a second metal shield. The first conductive terminal includes a first mating portion, a first tail portion and a first connection portion extending along a mating direction. The first conductive terminals includes first differential signal terminals. The first backplane connector includes a number of shielding spaces. The second backplane connector includes second differential signal terminals and metal shield surrounding members received in the shield spaces. Compared with the prior art, the structure of the first conductive terminals of the backplane connector assembly of the present invention is simplified. By providing the shielding spaces and the metal shield surrounding members, the shielding effect of the present disclosure is improved.
