A cable assembly includes coaxially arranged inner and outer barrels. The outer barrel overlaps a portion of the inner barrel. The cable assembly further includes a cable that has at least one wire surrounded by an inner insulator that is covered in a metallic shield. The metallic shield is arranged in between the inner and outer barrels. The inner barrel includes a retention feature that is arranged beneath the metallic shield. The retention feature protrudes radially outward from the inner barrel to an outermost diameter. The outer barrel includes a crimped portion that is arranged adjacent to the retention feature and has an innermost diameter that is less than the outermost diameter to capture the metallic shield therebetween and prevent the outer barrel from axial movement relative to the inner barrel.

BARREL CRIMP RETENTION FEATURE FOR CONNECTOR WITH BRAIDED WIRE

A cable assembly includes coaxially arranged inner and outer barrels. The outer barrel overlaps a portion of the inner barrel. The inner and outer barrels respectively include first and second features that cooperate with one another to form a retention feature. The cable assembly has a cable that has at least one wire surrounded by an inner insulator that is covered in a metallic shield. The metallic shield is arranged in between the inner and outer barrels. The first feature is arranged beneath the metallic shield, and the second feature is arranged over the metallic shield. At least one of the first and second features extends in a radial direction relative to the other of the first and second features to capture the metallic shield with the retention feature.

Electromagnetic interference shielding for a coaxial connector using a gasket assembly

An electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield system is disclosed. The system may include an EMI gasket assembly configured to prevent radio frequency (RF) radiation from escaping through a gap between a RF connector and the enclosure. The gasket assembly may include a gasket including a receiving portion. The receiving portion may be configured to receive a portion of a shaft of the RF connector. The gasket may be formed of a compressible material. The gasket assembly may include a spacer configured to couple to a portion of the shaft of the RF connector. The spacer may be configured to compress the gasket against a portion of the enclosure when the spacer is rotated in a first direction. The spacer may be configured to provide electrical continuity between the radio frequency connector and the gasket by causing the gasket to form an electrical connection with the enclosure when the gasket is compressed.

Controlled-Impedance Cable Termination for Cables Having Conductive Foil Shields

A cable termination that enables the attachment of SMA connectors to controlled-impedance cables with a conductive foil wrap shield; for the separate ferrule embodiment, the sheath is stripped back on the cable, exposing the foil shield surrounding the dielectric; a ferrule is slid or clamped over the foil shield and bonded; the face of the ferrule is dressed so that the foil shield and dielectric are flush with the ferrule face and the signal conductor protrudes from the face this cable subassembly is installed in the boss of a housing that prevents movement of the ferrules relative to each other and so that each ferrule face is aligned with an opening in the boss through which an SMA connector barrel is attached to the ferrule a cover secures the cable subassembly in the housing.

RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) CONNECTOR HAVING INTEGRATED WEATHER PROTECTION SYSTEM (WPS)

An RF connector having an integral weather protection system for protecting the connector from water, ice, salt, debris and other foreign damage. The connector comprises a Weather Protection (WP) assembly circumscribing a connector body, which, in turn, sealably mounts to a coaxial cable. The WP assembly comprises a housing, a compliant sealing ring and a biasing element. The WP housing sealably mounts over an end of the connector body and defines an aperture at an opposite end thereof to receive the coaxial cable and facilitate axial translation of the housing relative to the connector body. The compliant sealing ring has an inwardly facing sealing surface which defines a diameter dimension. And, the biasing element is reconfigurable from an expanded to a collapsed state in response to axial displacement of the housing relative to the connector body. Operationally, the biasing element engages the compliant ring to expand the diameter dimension of the biasing element around a portion an interface port, and closes over a sealing surface of the interface port to seal the compliant ring against the sealing surface
