Brush assembly with brush card mount with brush holders having base and main portion pieces

An electric motor is provided including: a stator, an armature rotatably received within the stator and having an armature shaft on which a commutator is mounted, and a brush assembly. The brush assembly defines a first surface facing the stator and a second surface opposite the first surface. The brush assembly includes a brush card mount having openings, brushes in sliding contact with the commutator to supply electric current to the commutator, and thermally-conductive brush holders that house the brushes. Each of the brush holders includes a base portion disposed substantially along a same plane as a surface of the brush card mount to form the first surface of the brush assembly, and a main portion protruding from the base portion through a respective opening of the brush card mount to house a respective brush at least partially over the second surface of the brush assembly.

A motor includes a commutator having segments, and feeding brushes which successively come into sliding contact with the segments. One of the plurality of feeding brushes is a first feeding brush with an electric resistance value that varies in a rotation direction of the commutator. The rest of the feeding brushes are second feeding brushes with a constant electric resistance value in the rotation direction. The first feeding brush includes a high resistance portion disposed in a part including a forward end portion of the first feeding brush in the rotation direction, and a low resistance portion arranged side-by-side with the high resistance portion in the rotation direction. The electric resistance value of the second feeding brushes is higher than that of the low resistance portion.

A contact brush holder is disclosed. According to an aspect, a brush holder is provided for receiving at least two contact brushes and holding the brushes in contact with a slip ring in an electrical power device. The brush holder comprises a holder body adapted for receiving said brushes. The brushes are arranged on opposite sides of a plane in which a central axis of the brush holder is located and in which an axis of rotation of the electric apparatus is situated. A biasing device is provided for biasing the holder body towards the slip ring, thus biasing the at least two contact brushes towards the slip ring.

Slip ring assembly having a brush assembly axially applied to a conductive busbar ring

The disclosed invention is a slip ring assembly that provides electrical power transfer to centrifugal turbomachinery while minimizing or eliminating the presence of wires in the flow path. The device transfers electrical power through a set of wires connected to a plurality of brushes that are held rotationally stationary, but allowed to displace axially or radially through a set of springs. The brushes make contact with conductive busbar rings, transferring electricity to the busbar rings. The busbar rings rotate with the centrifugal turbomachine with a set of wires that connect the busbar rings to the blades or other aerodynamic surfaces of the centrifugal turbomachine.
