Conductor assembly with a crimped tubular ferrule and method and tool for manufacturing same

A cable assembly includes an elongate conductor surrounded by an outer insulator and an outer ferrule surrounding a portion of the conductor. An outer surface of the outer ferrule is deformed to produce an indentation having an indentation surface that is angled relative to the outer surface. The indentation forms a barb that at least partially penetrates the outer insulator. A method of manufacturing the cable assembly and a tool for forming the outer ferrule is also presented and described.

An assembly includes an elongate conductor, such as a coaxial electrical cable, having a generally circular cross section and a generally cylindrical seamless outer ferrule having a ferrule radius surrounding a portion of the conductor. The outer ferrule is deformed to define four indentations and four projections that are evenly spaced about a circumference of the outer ferrule. The four indentations have a consistent indentation radius that is less than the ferrule radius.

Cable clamping device for widening of braided shields of cables

A cable clamping device for widening a braided shield of a cable includes at least three clamping bodies that are arranged to form an equilateral polygonal passage for clamping the cable therein. The clamping bodies are slidable against each other to change the opening size of the passage.

The 4-way indent tool includes a drive assembly movable along the drive screw between a retracted position and an advanced position. The drive assembly has a drive nut on a drive screw and a coupler operably coupled between the drive nut and the indenter actuator cam arm. The coupler moves the indenter actuator cam arm. The coupler has a spring loaded coupling between the drive nut and the indenter actuator cam arm compressed as the coupler is moved between the retracted position and the advanced position.

A wire clamp includes a base and first and second jaws. The first jaw is pivotally mounted to a first upright portion of the base via a first pivot axle, and the second jaw is pivotally mounted to a second upright portion of the base via a second pivot axle. The first and second jaws crisscross each other at an overlap area, and are spring-biased to pivot relative to the base towards a closed position. Respective hook members of the first and second jaws define a mouth above the overlap area that is configured to receive a wire. A size of the mouth adjusts automatically to a size of the wire within the mouth as the first and second jaws pivot towards the closed position. The wire may be held within the mouth in an in-line orientation with a corresponding terminal to which the wire will be crimped.

Ferrule crimping tool

A tool configured to form four evenly spaced indentations having an indentation radius and four evenly spaced projections about a circumference of a generally cylindrical seamless ferrule having a ferrule radius. Each projection of the four projections has a projection height equal to or less than a height threshold. The tool includes four crimping dies. Each crimping die of the four crimping dies defines a concave crimping surface having the indentation radius. The tool also includes four limiting dies. Each limiting die is located intermediate two adjacent crimping dies of the four crimping dies. Each limiting die defines a limiting surface that is configured to limit a height of each projection to the height threshold.

Arrangement, tool and method for producing such an arrangement

An arrangement includes an electric cable having a first electric conductor and a contact device having a crimp barrel and a contact element mechanically and electrically connected to the crimp barrel. The crimp barrel extends along an axis and has a first inner circumferential side and a first outer circumferential side. A first impress and a second impress are stamped into a first sub-portion of the crimp barrel, the second impress is offset circumferentially from the first impress with respect to the axis. The first inner circumferential side is shaped by the first impress and the second impress in such a manner that the first inner circumferential side is pressed against a second outer circumferential side of the first electric conductor and electrically contacts the second outer circumferential side, with the first inner circumferential side fitting against the second outer circumferential side.

The crimping unit further includes a retaining ring, in which the crimping jaws are accommodated in a radially displaceable manner, and an actuating ring axially displaceable relative to the retaining ring. An axial displacement of the actuating ring in a first direction enables radial displacement of the crimping jaws in the retaining ring into the crimping position. An axial displacement of the actuating ring in a second direction enables an active section of the actuating ring to interact with an active surface of a crimping jaw such that it is movable from the crimping position into a radially spaced position.
