Fiber-based continuous optical beat laser source to generate terahertz waves using lithium niobate crystal embedded in the fiber
A continuous optical beat laser element for generating terahertz (THz) waves and a laser source using same includes periodically poled lithium niobate (ppLN) crystals arranged along a predetermined direction forming a surface generally parallel to the predetermined direction. A Ti diffused region is applied on the surface and an array of gold nanowires are applied on the Ti diffused region to form a gold metal-insulator-metal (MIM) element that optimizes coupling and channeling of THz radiation from the crystals into the gold nanowires. The system provides a simple, stable, compact and cost-effective THz source using a widely tunable C-band SOA-based laser to excite a non-linear photo-mixer to produce terahertz radiation that ranges from 0.8 to 2.51 THz at room temperature. This laser source can be modified into an all fiber-based THz generator by embedding ppLN crystals in a fiber filament configuration resulting in less absorption and producing high output power.

Integrated broadband chaotic semiconductor laser using optical microcavities
The present invention discloses an integrated broadband chaotic semiconductor laser using optical microcavities. The arc-shaped hexagonal laser outputs light. Part of the light is totally reflected through the deformed microcavity and then reflected out of the deformed microcavity from the passive waveguide II; after entering the passive feedback waveguide, another part of the light is fed back into the deformed microcavity by the high reflection film, passes through an in-cavity ray track and then is also reflected out of the deformed microcavity from the passive waveguide II; the two-path light is coupled into the arc-shaped hexagonal laser, and finally generated chaotic laser light is directionally coupled and output through the passive waveguide I at the other end of the arc-shaped hexagonal laser. The present invention has wide broadband, flat spectrum, compact structure, and no time delay signature.
OPPOSING PUMP STRUCTURE FOR TWIN 980-NM PUMP LASERS IN EDFA
An opposing pump structure for twin 980-nm pump lasers in an EDFA, the structure comprising erbium-doped optical fiber, two 980-nm pump lasers, two signal/pump combiners, and anti-interference structures. Two 980-nm pump lasers output first pump light and second pump light, respectively, and first pump light and second pump light are injected into erbium-doped optical fiber in forward direction and reverse direction, respectively. Optical transmission path of first pump light and optical transmission path of second pump light are separately provided with anti-interference structures. Anti-interference structures are two fiber Bragg gratings or two optical filters. The invention improves optical paths of opposing pump structure for twin 980-nm pump lasers, and adds fiber Bragg gratings or optical filters to serve as anti-interference structures, so as to prevent residual pump light from either direction from entering opposite direction, thereby eliminating mutual interference between two opposing 980-nm pumps, and avoiding damage to tube cores.
