A system and method for paralleling generators. A timing signal indicative of a waveform reference point of at least a first generator of the generators is received at a second generator. The receiving generator determines a closing time for a second generator breaker associated with the second generator in response the timing signal from the first generator. The first generator breaker and the second generator breaker, or an aggregated generator breaker is closed to a bus at the closing time.

Inverter synchronization

A method of initiating a grid-tied inverter is described, in which in-rush currents and DC overvoltage conditions are reduced or avoided. The method uses a pulse width modulator to drive the inverter under the control of a voltage feedforward signal such that the inverter output is dependent on the measured grid voltage. Then, an AC current feedback controller is enabled and the pulse width modulator is used to drive the inverter under the control of both the voltage feedforward control signal and the feedback control signal.

A method of synchronizing a cross-compound generator system on one or more turning gears during startup includes determining, via a notch monitor controller, first and second angular velocities, respectively, of a first and a second rotor. The method also includes simultaneously exciting, via the notch monitor controller, the first and second rotors to attain electromechanical coupling therebetween. The method further includes determining, via the notch monitor controller, a value of a time at which a calibration value of an offset is a constant value, where the offset is representative of a phase alignment of the first rotor relative to the second rotor, and where the offset is indicative of a successful electromechanical coupling therebetween. The method also includes disengaging the one or more turning gears from the cross-compound generator system.

A method performed in an electrical microgrid for facilitating connection of a first and second AC power networks. The method includes, when the power networks are disconnected, from the second power network, controlling the AC frequency of the first power network based on the AC frequency of the second power network for ensuring that when the first and second networks are connected power will flow from the power network of the first and second power networks having a higher frequency to the power network of the first and second power networks having a lower frequency. The method also includes, after the controlling, connecting the first power network to the second power network, whereby power, at the instant of connecting, flows from the power network of the first and second power networks having a higher frequency to the power network of the first and second power networks having a lower frequency.

Method for synchronizing a feed voltage with a network voltage

In a method for synchronizing a feed voltage with a network voltage of an electrical energy supply network, a property of the feed voltage can be determined on the basis of a static characteristic curve. The static characteristic curve is compared to the property of the feed voltage of a feed power received by the electrical energy supply network at the applied feed voltage. The property of the feed voltage is adjusted to a specified value when a limit current of the feed power is reached.
