Fault-tolerant power network

One or more Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) are coupled to points in a network of interconnected nodes. Each node has a first port and a second port. Assume the first port of a first node is receiving DC power from the PSE. The first node, at its second port, then detects an electrical signature from a first port of an adjacent second node. If the proper electrical signature is presented by the adjacent second node, the powered first node closes a switch to pass power between its first port and second port to power the second node via the first port of the second node. All nodes in the network are then sequentially powered up in this manner. If there is a fault between the first node and the second node, the second node will be powered by another node connected to the second port of the second node.

Disconnection apparatus for a photovoltaic string, solar installation and operating method for a solar installation with a photovoltaic string

A description is given of an apparatus for disconnecting an electrical connection between solar modules of a photovoltaic string, the apparatus including a first and a second terminal for a respectively assigned solar module of the photovoltaic string, also a circuit breaker, a band-stop filter and a supply circuit for supplying energy to the apparatus, which are arranged in a series circuit with respect to one another between the first and second terminals. A bandpass filter for coupling out a high-frequency control signal from the electrical connection bridges the circuit breaker and the band-stop filter in parallel. In this case, a reverse current diode that is oppositely polarized relative to an operating current flow direction is connected in parallel with the circuit breaker or the partial series circuit comprising the circuit breaker and the band-stop filter.

A power management method comprises a step A of transmitting a first message from a power management server to a local control apparatus according to a first protocol. The power management server manages a facility connected to a power grid. The local control apparatus is provided in the facility. A communication between the local control apparatus and an equipment provided in the facility is performed according to a second protocol different from the first protocol. The step A includes a step of transmitting the first message in a manner capable of identifying a control for the local control apparatus and a control for a target equipment which is the equipment designated by the power management server.

Systems and methods dynamically assess energy efficiency by obtaining a minimum energy consumption of a system, receiving in a substantially continuous way a measurement of actual energy consumption of the system, and comparing the minimum energy consumption to the measurement of actual energy consumption to calculate a substantially continuous energy performance assessment. The system further provides at least one of a theoretical minimum energy consumption based at least in part on theoretical performance limits of system components, an achievable minimum energy consumption based at least in part on specifications for high energy efficient equivalents of the system components, and the designed minimum energy consumption based at least in part on specifications for the system components.
