Rotor assembly

A rotor assembly for an electric machine includes a cylindrical rotor core, a set of posts extending radially outward from the rotor core defining a set of slots between adjacent posts, a set of windings formed by conductive wire wound in the set of slots having end turns extending axially beyond the rotor core, and a retention case overlying the end turns.

MECHANICAL STRENGTH OF CONNECTION OF WOUND ROTOR GENERATOR/MOTOR

A refurbished rotor of a wound rotor machine. The refurbished rotor includes a plurality of windings assembled to the rotor core, each manufactured from two separate bars: a top coil and a bottom coil. The top coil is positioned in a rotor core slot at a position radially outward of a position of the bottom coil within another rotor core slot. Each top coil and each bottom coil has a flat rectangular cross-section. On a connection end of the rotor where rotor leads are attached, the top coil has a flat end positioned alongside and in alignment with a flat end of the bottom coil of an adjacent one of the plurality of windings. The top coil and the bottom coil have respective flat ends joined to each other on a non-connection end of the rotor opposite the connection end by a joint for establishing electrical continuity.

Cage for wound rotor of a synchronous electric machine

A cage for a wound rotor includes a first portion and a second portion to be rigidly connected to one another. Each portion includes an end ring and a circumferential plurality of rods extending away from the end ring parallel to the axis of revolution of the end ring. Each rod has a main portion and an end portion. For each rod of the first portion, the end portion of the rod is shaped to be rigidly connected to the end portion of at least one complementary rod of the second portion when the two portions are each installed at a longitudinal end of the body of the rotor so that the two complementary rods rigidly connected form a slot wedge extending between the two end rings of the two portions of the cage.
