Active clamping and scalable reference control for capacitor-drop power supplies
A capacitor-drop power supply includes a rectifier and a rectifier controller. The rectifier is configured to receive an alternating current (AC) signal at an AC voltage and convert the AC signal into a rectified direct current (DC) signal at a rectified voltage. The rectifier includes a first low side switch. The rectifier controller is configured to generate a switch close signal based on the rectified DC signal. The switch close signal is configured to close the first low side switch shunting the AC signal to ground.
POWER SUPPLY AND POWER SUPPLY UNIT
A power supply includes a primary circuit connected to a primary winding of a transformer and a secondary circuit connected to a secondary winding of the transformer. The primary circuit includes MOSFETs, and the secondary circuit includes MOSFETs configured to rectify power transmitted from a primary side of the transformer and includes a capacitor configured to store the rectified power. The secondary circuit performs a discharge operation of discharging the capacitor and causing a current to flow into the secondary winding of the transformer to reduce a source-drain voltage of the MOSFETs before the MOSFETs are switched from an off state to an on state. Thus, the power supply having a high power-conversion efficiency even during low output is provided.
72-pulse AC-DC converter for power quality improvement
A novel 72-pulse AC-DC converter based on a 36-pulse converter is designed and implemented in this invention. Combining the outputs of two parallel 18-pulse diode bridges, consisting of nine legs of diode rectifiers, results in a 36-pulse topology. A zero sequence blocking transformer (ZSBT) is designed and applied to the proposed scheme guarantying the independent operation of the two bridges. To achieve a 72-pulse output, a pulse doubling circuit is applied which is inherently a tapped inter-phase transformer. A polygon-connected autotransformer platform is designed and added to the converter, making the proposed scheme suitable for retrofit applications. The proposed solution is a tradeoff among the pulse number, the transformer platform, the complexity of the scheme and the cost. The proposed scheme has an optimized configuration in this regard. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the power quality indices.

Converter system and method for operating a converter system
A converter system and a method for operating a converter system having block-type energy feedback, in particular, includes: a power inverter that feeds energy back to an AC-voltage supply system, i.e. in particular a first power inverter; a DC/DC transformer having a control unit; and an electric motor, which is able to be fed by a second power inverter. The DC-voltage-side terminal of the second power inverter is connected to a first terminal of the DC/DC transformer 102, and a current-acquisition device for acquiring the current conveyed by the DC/DC transformer to the terminal of the regenerative power inverter on the DC-voltage side is connected to a control unit, e.g., such that the current values acquired by the current-acquisition device are supplied to the control unit. The control unit supplies to the DC/DC transformer control signals such that the voltage supplied by the DC/DC transformer to the regenerative power inverter, the acquired current is able to be controlled, in particular controls, to a setpoint-value characteristic.
Power converter
A diode rectifier rectifies an AC voltage output from a neutral-grounding three-phase AC power supply to a DC voltage. A smoothing capacitor smoothes the DC voltage rectified by the diode rectifier. An inverter converts the DC voltage smoothed by the smoothing capacitor into a desired AC voltage. A bidirectional switch and a Y capacitor are connected in series between one end of the smoothing capacitor and the ground. A detector detects a voltage across both ends of the smoothing capacitor. A controller drives the bidirectional switch in response to an output of the detector.

A circuit includes a rectifier, a charge pump, and a clamp control circuit. The rectifier has an input configured to be coupled to an alternating current (AC) power source. The rectifier rectifies an AC signal from the AC power source to produce a rectified voltage on a first voltage node. The rectifier includes a first transistor coupled to a ground node and to the input. The first switch has a first control input. The charge pump is coupled to the first voltage node. The charge pump is configured to generate a second voltage on a second voltage node. The voltage regulator is coupled to the second voltage node. The clamp control circuit is coupled to the first and second voltage nodes and has an output node coupled to the first control input.
