Apparatus and methods for reconfigurable power amplifiers are disclosed. In certain embodiments, a mobile device includes a transceiver configured to generate a first radio frequency signal of a first frequency band and a second radio frequency signal of a second frequency band, and a front-end system including a push-pull power amplifier configured to selectively amplify one of the first radio frequency signal or the second radio frequency signal based on a band control signal. The push-pull power amplifier includes an input balun, an output balun, and a pair of amplifiers coupled between the input balun and the output balun. The band control signal is operable to control an output capacitance of the pair of amplifiers.

The present invention provides a calibration method of a transmitter, wherein the transmitter includes a power amplifier, a transformer, an adjusting circuit and a coupling circuit, wherein the power amplifier receives an input signal to generate an amplified input signal, the transformer receives the amplified input signal to generate an output signal, the adjusting circuit adjusts phase and amplitude of a common mode signal of the amplified input signal to generate a first signal, and the coupling circuit generates a coupled signal to the output signal according to the first signal. In addition, the calibration method includes: controlling the adjusting circuit to have multiple combination; calculating a strength of a second harmonic of the output signal under each combination; and determining a specific condition according to the intensities of the second harmonics under the combinations.

In certain configurations, a power amplifier system includes a power amplifier configured to provide amplification to a radio frequency signal and to receive power from a power amplifier supply voltage, and an envelope tracker including a signal bandwidth detection circuit configured to generate a detected bandwidth signal based on processing an envelope signal corresponding to an envelope of the radio frequency signal. The envelope tracker further includes a switch bank configured to receive a plurality of regulated voltages, a filter configured to filter an output of the switch bank to generate the power amplifier supply voltage, and a mode control circuit configured to control a filtering characteristic of the filter based on the detected bandwidth signal.

Apparatus and methods for envelope tracking

Envelope tracking systems for power amplifiers are provided herein. In certain embodiments, an envelope tracker is provided for a power amplifier that amplifies an RF signal. The envelope tracker includes a multi-level switching circuit having an output that provides an output current that changes in relation to an envelope signal indicating an envelope of the RF signal when the envelope tracker is operating in an envelope tracking mode. The multi-level switching circuit includes a multi-level supply (MLS) modulator that receives multiple regulated voltages of different voltage levels, and an MLS control circuit that controls the selection of the MLS modulator over time based on the envelope signal. When transitioning the MLS modulator from selection of one regulated voltage level to another regulated voltage level, the MLS control circuit provides a soft transition to gradually switch the regulated voltage levels.
