Delay adjustment circuits

Methods, systems, and devices for delay adjustment circuits are described. Amplifiers (e.g., differential amplifiers) may act like variable capacitors (e.g., due to the Miller-effect) to control delays of signals between buffer (e.g., re-driver) stages. The gains of the amplifiers may be adjusted by adjusting the currents through the amplifiers, which may change the apparent capacitances seen by the signal line (due to the Miller-effect). The capacitance of each amplifier may be the intrinsic capacitance of input transistors that make up the amplifier, or may be a discrete capacitor. In some examples, two differential stages may be inserted on a four-phase clocking system (e.g., one on 0 and 180 phases, the other on 90 and 270 phases), and may be controlled differentially to control phase-to-phase delay.

Digitally controlled multistage combiner with a cascade of combiners

Circuits and methods for using in parallel amplification and signal combining are described herein. A circuit uses a digitally controlled multistage cascade combiner, a digital phase and drive signal amplifier controller and a digital combiner controller circuit with N parallel signals with constant amplitudes belonging to an alphabet with M discrete values and discrete phases feeding it. The signals resulting from N power amplifiers (PAs) have also constant amplitudes belonging to an alphabet with N discrete values and discrete phases prior to being fed to the multistage combiner. A digital combiner controller circuit generates digital control information to activate, or deactivate, the outputs of the PAs, where a set of digital control signals generated in digital combiner controller are used to control sets of switches, where the signals can be activated at the combiner's inputs, according to their power and phase values. The digital control information ensures that only in-phase signals are combined in the active combiner stage and any difference among the inputs of the combiners is always minimized. Both digital combiner controller and digital drive signal amplifier controller, share information about the signals not to be fed to the multistage combiner, so that PAs drive signals can also be powered off under these circumstances. In provide high efficiency amplification the signal amplifiers employed before the combining stage may be of switched or current source type.

The invention provides an efficient implementation of cross-product enhanced high-frequency reconstruction (HFR), wherein a new component at frequency QΩ+rΩ.sub.0 is generated on the basis of existing components at Ω and Ω+Ω.sub.0. The invention provides a block-based harmonic transposition, wherein a time block of complex subband samples is processed with a common phase modification. Superposition of several modified samples has the net effect of limiting undesirable intermodulation products, thereby enabling a coarser frequency resolution and/or lower degree of oversampling to be used. In one embodiment, the invention further includes a window function suitable for use with block-based cross-product enhanced HFR. A hardware embodiment of the invention may include an analysis filter bank, a subband processing unit configurable by control data and a synthesis filter bank.

The system may have or may access information related to the program audio being presented, enabling it to distinguish between conversations occurring in the program audio and conversations between users in the viewing environment. The system may turn the program volume down on one or more sound producing devices if it detects a conversation. The system may turn the program volume up if it detects an interrupting noise. The system may also adjust the program content based on locations of various objects within the listening or viewing environment, and types of users in the environment.

A method of enhancing dialog intelligibility in an audio signal, comprising determining a speech confidence score that the audio content includes speech content, determining a music confidence score that the audio content includes music correlated content, in response to the speech confidence score, and applying a user selected gain of selected frequency bands of the audio signal to obtain a dialogue enhanced audio signal. The user selected gain is smoothed by an adaptive smoothing algorithm, an impact of past frames in said smoothing algorithm being determined by a smoothing factor, the smoothing factor being calculated in response to the music confidence score, and having a relatively higher value for content having a relatively higher music confidence score and a relatively lower value for speech content having a relatively lower music confidence score, so as to increase the impact of past frames on the dialogue enhancement of music correlated content.
