An acoustic resonator includes a substrate, and a resonant portion comprising a center portion in which a first electrode, a piezoelectric layer and a second electrode are sequentially laminated on the substrate, and an extending portion disposed along a periphery of the center portion, wherein the resonant portion is configured to have an asymmetrical polygonal plane, an insertion layer is disposed below the piezoelectric layer in the extending portion, and the piezoelectric layer is configured to have a top surface which is raised to conform to a shape of the insertion layer, and the insertion layer is configured to have an asymmetrical polygonal shape corresponding to a shape of the extending portion.

An acoustic resonator includes a substrate and a piezoelectric plate having parallel front and back surfaces, the back surface attached to the substrate. An interdigital transducer (IDT) is formed on the front surface of the piezoelectric plate such that interleaved fingers of the IDT are disposed on a portion of the piezoelectric plate suspended over a cavity formed in the substrate.

TRANSVERSELY-EXCITED FILM BULK ACOUSTIC RESONATOR

Acoustic resonator devices and filters are disclosed. An acoustic resonator includes a substrate having a surface and a single-crystal piezoelectric plate having parallel front and back surfaces, the back surface attached to the surface of the substrate except for a portion of the piezoelectric plate forming a diaphragm that spans a cavity in the substrate. An interdigital transducer (IDT) is formed on the front surface of the single-crystal piezoelectric plate such that interleaved fingers of the IDT are disposed on the diaphragm. The IDT is configured to excite a primary acoustic mode in the diaphragm in response to a radio frequency signal applied to the IDT. A direction of acoustic energy flow of the primary acoustic mode is substantially orthogonal to the front and back surfaces of the diaphragm. The diaphragm is contiguous with the piezoelectric plate around at least 50% of a perimeter of the cavity.

An elastic wave device includes a supporting substrate, a high-acoustic-velocity film stacked on the supporting substrate and in which an acoustic velocity of a bulk wave propagating therein is higher than an acoustic velocity of an elastic wave propagating in a piezoelectric film, a low-acoustic-velocity film stacked on the high-acoustic-velocity film and in which an acoustic velocity of a bulk wave propagating therein is lower than an acoustic velocity of a bulk wave propagating in the piezoelectric film, the piezoelectric film is stacked on the low-acoustic-velocity film, and an IDT electrode stacked on a surface of the piezoelectric film.

A packaging structure of a film bulk acoustic resonator includes a resonant cavity main structure that includes a first substrate and a film bulk acoustic resonant structure over the first substrate with a first cavity formed there-between. A resonator cover includes a second substrate and an elastic bonding material layer that has lost elasticity and is sandwiched between the second substrate and the film bulk acoustic resonant structure. The elastic bonding material layer contains a second cavity, and the second cavity is at least partially aligned with the first cavity. A through-hole is formed through the resonator cover on a periphery of the second cavity and exposes a corresponding electrical connection part of the film bulk acoustic resonant structure. A conductive interconnection layer covers a sidewall of the through-hole and a portion of a surface of the resonator cover on a periphery of the through-hole.

A bulk acoustic wave (BAW) device comprises a layer stack including first and second electrodes, a first piezoelectric layer between the electrodes, and a second piezoelectric layer between the first piezoelectric layer and the second electrode. A polarization of a crystal structure of the second piezoelectric layer is opposite to a polarization of a crystal structure of the first piezoelectric layer to achieve higher order resonant frequencies in the BAW device by means other than merely thinning layers in the layer stack. In some examples, the BAW device is a two-terminal device and does not include a metal layer configured to be a third electrode. In some examples, the BAW device includes at least one intermediate layer between the first and second piezoelectric layers, and a total combined thickness of the at least one intermediate layer is less than 4% of a total thickness of the layer stack.

Low-loss and wide-band acoustic delay lines using x-cut and y-cut lithium niobate piezoelectric thin films

A piezoelectric thin film (PTF) is located above a carrier substrate. The PTF may be X-cut LiNbO.sub.3 thin film adapted to propagate an acoustic wave in at least one of a first mode excited by an electric field oriented in a longitudinal direction along a length of the PTF or a second mode excited by the electric field oriented at least partially in a thickness direction of the PTF. A first interdigitated transducer (IDT) is disposed on a first end of the PTF. The first IDT is to convert a first electromagnetic signal, traveling in the longitudinal direction, into the acoustic wave. A second IDT is disposed on a second end of the PTF with a gap between the second IDT and the first IDT. The second IDT is to convert the acoustic wave into a second electromagnetic signal.

Crystal oscillator, and method for making the same

A crystal oscillator includes an oscillating substrate, a hollow frame, a first electrode, and a second electrode. The oscillating substrate includes a main oscillating region and a thinned region that has a thickness smaller than that of the main oscillating region. The first and second electrodes are disposed on a first surface of the oscillating substrate and a second surface opposite to the first surface, respectively. The hollow frame is disposed on the second surface. The second electrode includes a second electrode portion that has at least one opening in positional correspondence with the thinned region. A method for making the crystal oscillator is also provided herein.

Bulk acoustic wave resonator device and method of manufacturing thereof

A bulk acoustic wave resonator device comprises bottom and top electrodes (120, 360). A piezoelectric layer (355) sandwiched therebetween has a thickness in the active resonator area different from the thickness in the surrounding area. A method of manufacturing the device comprises a bonding of a piezoelectric wafer to a carrier wafer and splitting a portion of the piezoelectric wafer by an ion-cut technique. Different thicknesses of the piezoelectric layer in the active area and the surrounding area are achieved by implanting ions at different depths.

Fabricating method of film bulk acoustic resonator

A film bulk acoustic resonator and a fabricating method thereof is provided. The fabricating method includes: fabricating a lower electrode on a first surface of an SOI substrate; forming piezoelectric layers on the first surface of the SOI substrate and the lower electrode; forming top electrodes on the piezoelectric layers; processing an air cavity on a second surface of the SOI substrate, wherein the second surface and the first surface are oppositely arranged. The fabricating method simplifies a preparation process of FBAR, a quality of a AlN film crystal grown though the fabrication method is high, an improvement of a device performance is facilitated, and meanwhile a thickness of a top silicon is controlled through a position of a silicon injected oxygen isolation to regulate a frequency of the film bulk acoustic resonator.
