Hybridized wideband notch filter topologies and methods

Radio frequency (RF) acoustic wave resonator (AWR) filter circuits and methods. Embodiments essentially de-couple the stopband or notch characteristics of an RF filter from the passband characteristics. Accordingly, the de-coupled parameters can be individually designed to meet the specifications of a particular application. Partially-hybridized or fully-hybridized series-arm and parallel-arm AWR filter building blocks enable “de-coupled” RF filters having (1) wideband and low insertion loss passbands and (2) wideband deep notches (stopbands) with a specifically placed notch center frequency, without compromising the passband characteristics. The AWR filter building blocks include an inductance L that matches (resonates with) the electrostatic capacitance CO of the corresponding AWR within a desired passband. The resonance and anti-resonance frequencies of the building block AWRs are selected to be spaced apart from the specified passband in order to provide independent stopband or notch characteristics without substantially affecting the passband characteristics.

Aspects of this disclosure relate to a switchable acoustic wave filter. The switchable acoustic wave filter can include a switch configured to electrically connect an acoustic wave resonator to a node in a first state and to electrically isolate the acoustic wave resonator from the node in a second state. The switchable acoustic wave filter can filter a radio frequency signal with at least the acoustic wave resonator and a second acoustic wave resonator in the first state. The switchable acoustic wave filter can filter the radio frequency signal with at least the second acoustic wave resonator in the first state. Related multiplexers, radio frequency systems, wireless communication devices, and methods are also disclosed.

The parallel-arm resonator has a second fractional bandwidth ((the higher-order antiresonant frequency−the antiresonant frequency)/the antiresonant frequency) greater than the second fractional bandwidth of the series-arm resonator.

The controller has instructions to adjust the closed loop frequency response toward a desired closed loop frequency response by controlling the adjustable frequency (f) of the at least one adjustable resonator (18812) and the gain factor (g) of the adjustable scaling block (18824).

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for scalable and parallel computation of hierarchical cascading in finite element method (FEM) simulations of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. Different computing units of a cluster or cloud service may be assigned to independently model different core blocks or combinations of core blocks for iterative cascading to generate a model of the SAW devices. Similarly, frequency ranges may independently be assigned to computing units for modeling and analysis of devices, drastically speeding up computation.
