The present application relates to a method of operating a capacitance sensing device comprises: calculating a difference of a raw data compared to one of the raw data received in a previous data frame; and performing a comparison calculation based on the raw data and a stored baseline value to determine whether a proximity event has occurred. Under the proximity event, selects one of several baseline value update procedures based on the magnitude of the difference. Thus, the present application effectively avoids the problem of failure to update the baseline value when the object is close to the capacitance sensing device for a long period of time, which may lead to misjudgment of the capacitance sensing device.

Four infrared LEDs and two photodiodes PD are arranged below a lower side of a display surface in the order of an LED1, a PD1, an LED2, an LED3, a PD2, and an LED4. A detection signal A1 of the PD1 when the LED1 emits light, a detection signal A2 of the PD1 when the LED2 emits light, a detection signal A3 of the PD2 when the LED3 emits light, and a detection signal A4 of the PD2 when the LED4 emits light are used to estimate a reflection generation position in the left-right direction, and a threshold Th is set such that the threshold Th increases when the reflection generation position is on the left side, which is a driver's seat side. If the maximum value of A1, A2, A3, and A4 exceeds the threshold Th, the approach of the user's hand is detected.

A sensor device has: a sensor unit that outputs a sinusoidal detection signal having an amplitude matching a physical quantity to be detected; a reference signal creator that creates a first sinusoidal reference signal having the same frequency and phase as the detection signal; and a demodulator that multiplies the detection signal by the first reference signal and creates, as a first demodulation signal matching the physical quantity, a signal matching a direct-current component included in a signal resulting from the multiplication. The reference signal creator creates a sinusoidal second reference signal having the same frequency as the detection signal but being out of phase with the detection signal. The demodulator multiplies the detection signal by the second reference signal and creates, as a second demodulation signal matching a noise component superimposed on the detection signal, a signal matching a direct-current component included in a signal resulting from the multiplication.

An optical proximity sensor with a digital calibration circuit and a digital calibration method are provided. In a test mode, a test light emitted by a light transmitter is reflected by a cover of an electronic device to form a first reflected analog signal to a light receiver. A digital calibration circuit counts the first number of pulse waves of a first reflected digital signal. In a calibration mode, a light is emitted to a detected object through the cover and then is reflected by the detected object to form a second reflected analog signal to the light receiver. When the digital calibration circuit counts the number of pulse waves of a second reflected digital signal up to the first number, the digital calibration circuit clears the first number and then recounts the number of pulse waves of the second reflected digital signal to obtain the second number.
