Approximation of samples of a digital signal reducing a number of significant bits
The invention relates to the representation of digital signals. In order to improve the perception by a user of the quality of a digital signal, a first sample of first digital signal is approximated to a second sample of a second digital signal having a second number of significant bits lower than the first number of significant bits of the first sample. The second number of significant bits is also lower than a number of significant bits allowing the second digital signal, or a signal derived therefrom to match an expected bit depth of a processing unit said second digital signal, or a signal derived therefrom is to be sent to.

System and method for secure, fast communications between processors on complex chips
A system and method for fast communication between processors on complex chips using encoding, wherein a training data set is used to find patterns and associated smaller indices, or codewords, which are stored in a reference codebook library, and where reconstruction and deconstruction algorithms are used to encode and decode data as it is received. The codebook and algorithms may be stored in the firmware of a semiconductor which enable reduced resources and cost when transmitting data between or among devices that utilize such semiconductors.
Data Compression and Transmission Technique
Disclosed herein is a method of transmitting data, the method comprising: obtaining a plurality of data blocks; determining a plurality of values of a transmission parameter for a transmitter; determining a plurality of values of a processing parameter of a processor; determining, for each of the obtained data blocks, one of a plurality of compression levels in dependence on at least one of the determined transmission parameter values and/or at least one processing parameter values; compressing each of a plurality data blocks in dependence on the determined compression level each block; and transmitting the data blocks; wherein: the transmitted data blocks comprise data blocks are compressed with different compression levels; and one of the compression levels is a determination to not compress data blocks such that the method does not compress some of the transmitted data blocks.

Apparatus and methods are disclosed, including enabling communication between a memory controller and multiple memory devices of a storage system using a storage-system interface, the multiple memory devices each comprising a device controller and a group of non-volatile memory cells, and compressing data using at least one of the device controllers prior to transfer over the storage-system interface to improve an effective internal data transmission speed of the storage system.
ENCODING OF SYMBOLS FOR A COMPUTER INTERCONNECT BASED ON FREQUENCY OF SYMBOL VALUES
Data are serially communicated over an interconnect between an encoder and a decoder. The encoder includes a first training unit to count a frequency of symbol values in symbol blocks of a set of N number of symbol blocks in an epoch. A circular shift unit of the encoder stores a set of most-recently-used (MRU) amplitude values. An XOR unit is coupled to the first training unit and the first circular shift unit as inputs and to the interconnect as output. A transmitter is coupled to the encoder XOR unit and the interconnect and thereby contemporaneously sends symbols and trains on the symbols. In a system, a device includes a receiver and decoder that receive, from the encoder, symbols over the interconnect. The decoder includes its own training unit for decoding the transmitted symbols.
Generic compression ratio adapter for end-to-end data-driven compressive sensing reconstruction frameworks
A compression ratio (CR) adapter (CRA) for end-to-end data-driven compressive sensing (CS) reconstruction (EDCSR) frameworks is provided. EDCSR frameworks achieve state-of-the-art reconstruction performance in terms of reconstruction speed and accuracy for images and other signals. However, existing EDCSR frameworks cannot adapt to a variable CR. For applications that desire a variable CR, existing EDCSR frameworks must be trained from scratch at each CR, which is computationally costly and time-consuming. Embodiments described herein present a CRA framework that addresses the variable CR problem generally for existing and future EDCSR frameworks with no modification to given reconstruction models nor enormous additional rounds of training needed. The CRA exploits an initial reconstruction network to generate an initial estimate of reconstruction results based on a small portion of acquired image measurements. Subsequently, the CRA approximates full measurements for the main reconstruction network by complementing the sensed measurements with a re-sensed initial estimate.
Soft data compression for non-volatile memory
An encoder of a storage medium encodes data subject to a read operation specified by a storage controller by generating a plurality of symbols representing a soft data stream corresponding to the data subject to the read operation, where each symbol of the plurality of symbols includes (i) a single-bit value number indicating whether the symbol counts 0s or 1s, and (ii) an N-bit count number indicating a bit count associated with the symbol, where N is greater than or equal to two, and the encoder of the storage medium is configured to convey the plurality of generated symbols to the storage controller via electrical interface circuitry connecting the storage medium and the storage controller.
Energy efficient adaptive data encoding method and circuit
Various energy efficient data encoding schemes and computing devices are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of transmitting data from a transmitter to a receiver connected by plural wires is provided. The method includes sending from the transmitter on at least one but not all of the wires a first wave form that has first and second signal transitions. The receiver receives the first waveform and measures a first duration between the first and second signal transitions using a locally generated clock signal not received from the transmitter. The first duration is indicative of a first particular data value.
