SATELLITE NETWORK SERVICE SHARING
Methods, systems, and devices are described for providing network access services to mobile users via multi-user network access terminals over a multi-beam satellite system. Quality-of-service (QoS) is controlled for the mobile devices at a per-user level according to user-specific traffic policies. Mobile users may be provisioned on the satellite system according to a set of traffic policies based on their service level agreement (SLA). System resources of the satellite may be allocated to mobile users based on the demand of each mobile user and the set of traffic polices associated with each mobile user, regardless of which multi-user network access terminal is used to access the system. Dynamic multiplexing of traffic from fixed terminals and mobile users on the same satellite beam can take advantage of statistical multiplexing of large numbers of users and on different usage patterns between fixed terminals and mobile users.
COVERAGE AREA ADJUSTMENT TO ADAPT SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS
The described features generally relate to adjusting a native antenna pattern of a satellite to adapt communications via the satellite. For example, a communications satellite may include an antenna having a feed array assembly, a reflector, and a linear actuator coupled between the feed array assembly and the reflector. The feed array assembly may have a plurality of feeds for communicating signals associated with a communications service, and the reflector may be configured to reflect the signals transmitted between the feed array assembly and one or more target devices. The linear actuator may have an adjustable length, or otherwise provide an adjustable position between the feed array assembly and the reflector. By adjusting the position of the feed array assembly relative to the reflector, the communications satellite may provide a communications service according to a plurality of native antenna patterns.
Broadband Satellite Communication System using Optical Feeder Links
Broadband satellite communications systems using optical feeder links are disclosed. Various optical modulation schemes are disclosed that can provide improved capacity for fixed spot beam, on board beamforming, and ground-based beamforming broadband satellite systems.
Ground terminals via remote digital-beam-forming networks for satellites in non-geostationary orbit
A MIMO basestation for a cellular communications system comprises a remote indoor processing facility coupled to an outdoor RF tower via optical fibers. The remote indoor processing facility includes a bank of RF modulators to modulate signal streams; a remote MIMO transmitting processor that includes a remote digital beam-forming network to transform the modulated signal streams into transmit beam signals; a pre-processor to perform a wavefront multiplexing transform on the transmit beam signals to generate wavefront multiplexed beam signals, each of the wavefront multiplexed beam signals being a linear combination of the transmit beam signals; and RF-to-optical drivers to perform optical modulating functions on the wavefront multiplexed beam signals to generate optical waveform streams.
Relay station, control station, data transmission system, data transmission method, control circuit, and recording medium
A relay station includes a beam formation unit capable of emitting multiple beams to multiple respective emission areas. The beam formation unit forms clusters each from two or more of the emission areas, and emits the beams based on assignment information indicating which slot is assigned to which of the emission areas on a per cluster basis. One emission area belongs to multiple clusters.
System and method for return end-to-end beamforming
Methods and systems are described for providing end-to-end beamforming. For example, end-to-end beamforming systems include end-to-end relays and ground networks to provide communications to user terminals located in user beam coverage areas. The ground segment can include geographically distributed access nodes and a central processing system. Return uplink signals, transmitted from the user terminals, have multipath induced by a plurality of receive/transmit signal paths in the end to end relay and are relayed to the ground network. The ground network, using beamformers, recovers user data streams transmitted by the user terminals from return downlink signals. The ground network, using beamformers generates forward uplink signals from appropriately weighted combinations of user data streams that, after relay by the end-end-end relay, produce forward downlink signals that combine to form user beams.

Reconfigurable and modular active repeater device
A device includes a primary sector and secondary sectors communicatively coupled to the primary sector. The processor included in the primary sector is configured to down convert a Radio Frequency (RF) signals with a first frequency to an analog baseband (IQ) signal with a second frequency, and receive a second digital baseband signal that comprises a first digital baseband signal and a digital echo signal. The first digital baseband signal comprises a training sequence signal. Further, the processor estimates a plurality of filter taps of the FIR filter based on the digital echo signal and estimate the digital echo signal in the received second digital baseband signal based on the first digital baseband signal and the plurality of filter taps of the FIR filter. The estimated digital echo signal is removed from at least one current digital baseband signal based on the down conversion of the RF signals.
Device and system for the reception of ADS-B messages by an orbiting satellite
A device for the reception of ADS-B messages for a satellite is disclosed including an array of sources and a beamforming module, a ground footprint of a field of view defining a service area, different service areas being associated with different positions of the satellite, a ground footprint of a beam defining a spot in the service area, the beamforming module being configured to form each beam by applying combination coefficients, the reception device having a processing circuit configured to obtain information representative of a position of the satellite and to modify a set of combination coefficients so as to adapt the surface area and/or or the shape of the formed spots to a geographical distribution of the aircrafts within the service area associated with the position of the satellite.
NETWORK ACCESS MANAGEMENT
Within a satellite communications system, a base station communicates with standard compliant user equipment (UE) via a satellite having a field of view. The base station has a processor that instructs the satellite to generate a wide beam signal covering a plurality of cells in the field of view, and detects an access request from a user equipment within the plurality of cells over the wide beam signal. The base station, comprising a processing device such as an eNodeB, then generates one or more network broadcast/access signals that is uplink to a satellite and broadcasted via one or more nominal beams generated by the satellite, covering all the inactive cells, one of the plurality of cells having the access request.
