The second lens group is positioned at the second focal plane of the field corrector lens and is configured to couple light to a sensor.
COMMUNICATION APPARATUS AND OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A communication device includes: a light output unit for outputting light; a light splitting unit for splitting the light output by the light output unit into a plurality of split beams; and a plurality of spatial optical communication units provided in correspondence to the plurality of split beams, wherein the spatial optical communication units respectively transmit a corresponding split beam which is input from the light splitting unit to a partner communication device across space.
Free space optical communication terminal with rotatable dispersive optical component
Embodiments relate to a free space optical (FSO) terminal that transmits and receives optical beams. The FSO terminal includes a fore optic and a rotatable dispersive optical component. A receive (Rx) optical beam from the remote FSO communication terminal is received through the fore optic, and a transmit (Tx) optical beam is transmitted through the fore optic. The dispersive optical component is positioned along the optical paths of both the Rx and Tx optical beams. Since the Rx and Tx optical beams have different wavelengths and the dispersive optical component has a wavelength dependence, the dispersive optical component creates an angular separation between the Rx and Tx optical beams. The controller controls the rotational position of the dispersive optical component (and possibly also the wavelength of the Tx optical beam) to achieve a desired angular separation between the Rx and Tx optical beams.
PHOTONIC INTEGRATED CIRCUIT WITH INDEPENDENT UNIT CELLS HAVING MULTI-POLARIZATION SENSITIVITY
An apparatus includes a photonic integrated circuit having an optical phased array, where the optical phased array includes multiple unit cells. Each unit cell includes (i) at least one antenna element configured to transmit or receive optical signals and (ii) a modulator configured to phase-shift the optical signals transmitted or received by the antenna element. Each unit cell is configured to transmit or receive light having multiple polarizations in the optical signals.
Reducing scintillation noise in free space optical communications
In some embodiments, an optical communication system may include an optical source, a modulator, and a photoreceiver. The optical source may be configured to generate a beam comprising a series of light pulses. The photoreceiver may have a detection window duration of 1 nanosecond or less. When a first pulse travels through a variably refractive medium, photons in the first pulse may be refracted to travel along different ray paths to arrive at the photoreceiver according to a temporal distribution curve. A full width at half maximum (FWHM) value of the temporal distribution curve may be greater than a coherence time value of the first pulse, and the detection window of the photoreceiver may be greater than the FWHM value of the temporal distribution curve.

Disclosed herein are methods, devices, and system for beam forming and beam steering within ultra-wideband, wireless optical communication devices and systems. According to one embodiment, a free space optical (FSO) communication apparatus is disclosed. The FSO communication apparatus includes an array of optical sources wherein each optical source of the array of optical sources is individually controllable and each optical source configured to have a transient response time of less than 500 picoseconds (ps).
Transceiver assembly for free space power transfer and data communication system
A transceiver assembly for a wireless power transfer system includes a transceiver system comprising a photodiode assembly, a voltage converter and a light emitting diode and a photodiode. The photodiode assembly may be configured to receive a high-power laser beam from a transmitter and to convert the high-power laser beam to electrical energy. The voltage converter may be configured to adjust an input impedance based on a voltage measure of the photodiode assembly so as to maximize power transfer from the photodiode assembly to an energy storage device electrically coupled to the voltage converter. The light emitting diode and the photodiode may be configured to enable free space optical communication with the transmitter. The light emitting diode may emit signals indicating a presence and a location of the transceiver to the transmitter at least when the energy storage device requires a charge.
Interference detection and interference suppression of reverse link communication in feeder link of HAPS communication system
It is detected of an interference of a reverse link communication in a feeder link of a communication relay apparatus, which tends to occur when the number of movable aerial-floating type communication relay apparatuses increases in the same area. A communication system comprises a plurality of movable aerial-floating type communication relay apparatuses that respectively include a relay communication station of performing a service-link radio communication with a terminal apparatus, plural gateway stations that respectively perform a feeder-link radio communication with the plurality of the communication relay apparatuses, and a common baseband processing apparatus connected to the plural gateway stations. The baseband processing apparatus detects an interference of the reverse link communication due to an interference wave from a relay communication station of another communication relay apparatus, the interference wave interfering with a signal wave from the relay communication station of the communication relay apparatus connected to the gateway station, based on plural reception signals received by the plural gateway stations.
Method for transmitting and receiving signal in optical wireless communication system, and transmitting terminal and receiving terminal therefor
A method of receiving, by a receiving terminal, a signal in optical wireless communication is proposed. The method may comprise: establishing a communication link for performing the optical wireless communication with a transmitting terminal; receiving an optical signal from the transmitting terminal through the communication link; and performing interference cancelation on the optical signal. Here, establishing the communication link comprises transmitting and receiving initial information with the transmitting terminal, wherein the initial information may include an orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode applied to the optical signal. In addition, the interference cancelation may be performed on the basis of the OAM mode.
Adaptive buffer region for line-of-sight network planning
Architectures and techniques are presented that improve or enhance a network planning procedure such as by selecting a more efficient test buffer that is used to identify objects that might intersect a Fresnel zone between two transceivers. An improved test buffer (e.g., buffer region) can be one that is constructed from a plurality of rectangles situated along a line of sight of the two transceivers and that are oriented according to cardinal directions.
