Signal distribution arrangements are assembled by selecting a terminal body and a tap module combination that provides the desired signal strength at the intended position in an optical network. Each terminal body includes an input connection interface, a pass-through connection interface, a module connection interface, and multiple drop connection interfaces. Each tap module houses an optical tap having an asymmetric split ratio. Most of the optical signal power received at the signal distribution arrangement passes to the pass-through connection interface. A portion of the optical signal power is routed to the drop connection interfaces (e.g., via a symmetrical optical power splitter). The tap module and terminal body combination are selected based on the desired number of drop connection interfaces and to balance the asymmetric split ratio with the symmetric split ratio.

Digital information can be carried on the fiber leg of an access network using binary modulation. Binary modulated data received at an O/E node can then be modulated onto an analog waveform using quadrature amplitude modulation or some other technique for modulating an analog waveform and transmitted over, for example, the coaxial leg of the network. The O/E node may also receive an analog signal, over the coaxial leg, modulated to carry upstream data from subscriber devices. The O/E node may demodulate the upstream signal to recover the upstream data and forward that upstream data over the fiber leg using a binary modulated optical signal.

Each wireless router is associated with a respective one of a plurality of subscriber premises that are served by the directional wireless drop system and is configured to communicate with at least one device that is located at the respective one of plurality of subscriber premises.

METHOD OF TRANSPORTING DIGITAL DATA OVER COAXIAL CABLE

A method of transporting digital data over coaxial cable comprising converting digital signals associated with data into data electrical signals, positioning at least one repeater station, along a coaxial cable, restoring digital signals from the data electrical signals at the repeater station, and converting the digital signals back into data electrical signals at the repeater station for onward transmission. Typically a plurality of repeater stations are disposed at spaced-apart intervals along the coaxial cable with each repeater station comprises a receiver and transmitter, the receiver receiving data electrical signals and restoring these into digital signals with the transmitter converting the digital signals back into data electrical signals for onward transmission. The data electrical signals have a frequency of at least 2 GHz.

METHOD OF SEGMENTING AN ACCESS NETWORK OF A HYBRID FIBER COAXIAL NETWORK

A method of segmenting an access network of a hybrid fiber coaxial network, the method comprising receiving optical signals at a main node converting the optical signals into digital signals associated with data and electrical signals associated with a broadcast spectrum, converting the digital signals into electrical signals in a frequency range differing from a frequency range of the broadcast spectrum electrical signals, producing a combined electrical signal with separate frequency bands for data and broadcast spectrum signals, and conveying the combined signal along a coaxial cable to a plurality of subsidiary nodes. Frequencies associated with a first Narrowcast band within the broadcast electrical spectrum signal are replaced with frequencies associated with a second Narrowcast band.

The encoding module is configured to perform encoding in different forms respectively according to different outputs of the protocol parsing module, and transmit the encoded signal to the sending link. In the present invention, different combinations of combined AUX, HPD and null signals are line-encoded respectively according to characteristics of a DP protocol.

An indexing system includes an indexing component; a redundant optical path; and a fiber tap arrangement. Multiple indexing components can be daisy-chained together in the indexing system. The redundant optical path is created between any forward port and any rearward port in the network. Multiple redundant optical paths can be created within the network. One or more tap arrangements can be disposed along each redundant optical path. Accordingly, feed signals in a bidirectional indexing environment can be supplied to each drop line along the redundant optical path from either direction without recabling.
