METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR INCREASING BANDWIDTH EFFICIENCY IN SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS
Methods and systems are provided for increasing bandwidth efficiency in satellite communications. In some embodiments, a satellite communications method is provided that comprises receiving, at a satellite and from a plurality of user ground terminals, a plurality of source signals, wherein each of the source signals are modulated according to at least one source modulation method, and further receiving, at a satellite and from a plurality of user ground terminals, a plurality of information signals corresponding to the plurality of source signals. The method further includes combining, at the satellite, the plurality of source signals into a combined source signal with an overlapping bandwidth, wherein each of the source signals are further modulated according to at least one predetermined modulation method before they are combined, and transmitting, by a downlink transmission from the satellite to a gateway ground station, the combined source signal.

Methods and systems are provided for increasing bandwidth efficiency in satellite communications. In some embodiments, a satellite communications method is provided that comprises receiving, at a gateway ground station and as part of a downlink transmission from a satellite, a combined source signal comprising a plurality of source signals with an overlapping bandwidth, and extracting, from the downlink transmission, information specifying at least one predetermined modulation method. The method also includes generating, based on the at least one predetermined modulation method and from the combined source signal, a plurality of estimated waveforms corresponding to the plurality of source signals, separating, by signal cancellation and using the plurality of estimated waveforms, the plurality of source signals from the combined source signal, and routing, with a terrestrial network, the plurality of source signals to one or more user ground terminals.

A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR USE IN A SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
A method and a system are provided for use in a satellite communications network in which broadcasting services are provided to a mobile terminal. The method comprises: duplicating bits comprised in communications which the satellite is about to broadcast, thereby forming a first stream of bits and a second stream of bits; conveying the first stream of bits in an encoded form along a satellite channel whereas the second stream of bits is conveyed in an encoded form along a terrestrial channel; and combining bits conveyed along the satellite channel with bits conveyed along the terrestrial channel in order to obtain a combined stream of bits.
Method and system for distributing content using device-specific content delivery networks
A system 100 includes a first content delivery network 280(1) for a first type of user device, a second content delivery network 280(n) for a second type of user device and a content repository 274 communicating with the first content delivery network 280(1) and the second content delivery network 280(n). The first content is in a first format associated with the first content delivery network 280(1) and a second content associated with the second content delivery network 280(n). A content management system 221 generates a first content list for the first content delivery network 280 and generates a second content list for the second content delivery network 280(n). A content distribution system 260 communicates with the content management system and the first content delivery network and the second content delivery network. The content distribution system 260 transfers content to the first and second content delivery network from the content repository. The first content delivery network 280(1) publishes the content according to a publication start time. The first content delivery network 280(1) communicates the first content list to a first user device. The second content delivery network 280(n) communicates the second content list to a second user device.

Messaging between set top box and head end systems
A system, apparatus, and method provide messaging, between a headend system and a set top box. A distributor determines and provides an assigned communication identifier and an assigned server host address, that correspond to one of one or more first servers, to each of one or more set top box clients. The first servers maintain a persistent connection with the set top box clients and provide messaging, presence, and routing features via the persistent connection. A gateway service provides a gateway for one or more headend servers to communicate with the set top box clients through the first servers. A server controller provides administrative graphical user interfaces for operators to monitor and control health checks, configuration changes, and collect statistics for the distributor, first servers, and the gateway service.
