Method and apparatus for using selected content tracks from two or more program channels to automatically generate a blended mix channel for playback to a user upon selection of a corresponding preset button on a user interface
A method and apparatus are provided for generating a personalized radio channel playlist by simultaneously buffering multiple received channels from one or more source streams, and then selecting songs or tracks to playback from the buffered channels. Users can specify favorite channels for building their personal playlists, or multiple default playlist channels can be provided by genre or channels related in some other way. Navigation tools permit users to skip ahead and backward in the playback stream. A personalized radio channel playlist can be implemented as (1) content selected from buffered channels based on user preferences for artists, songs and the like, or (2) as a Mix Channel in which content from selected buffered channels is automatically mixed for playback in response to selection of a preset button assigned to the Mix Channel.

Multi-user satellite receiving system and method thereof
An integrated multi-user satellite receiver includes: a single-chip, and the single-chip includes: a first synthesizer for generating a first oscillating signal having a first frequency; a first frequency multiplier for generating a second oscillating signal having a second frequency according to the first oscillating signal; a second synthesizer for generating a third oscillating signal having a third frequency; and a second frequency multiplier for generating a fourth oscillating signal having a fourth frequency according to the third oscillating signal; wherein the single-chip generates a first down-converted signal according to a first satellite signal and the second oscillating signal, generates a second down-converted signal according to the first satellite signal and the fourth oscillating signal, generates a third down-converted signal according to a second satellite signal and the second oscillating signal, and generates a fourth down-converted signal according to the second satellite signal and the fourth oscillating signal.
MUSIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS
Music is blanket transmitted (for example, via satellite downlink transmission) to each customer's user station where selected music files are recorded. Customers preselect from a list of available music in advance using an interactive screen selector, and pay only for music that they choose to playback for their enjoyment. An antipiracy WID tag is woven into the recorded music so that any illegal copies therefrom may be traced to the purchase transaction. Music is transmitted on a fixed schedule or through an active scheduling process that monitors music requests from all or a subset of satellite receivers and adjusts scheduling according to demand for various CD's. Receivers store selections that are likely to be preferred by a specific customer. In those instances where weather conditions, motion of atmospheric layers or dish obstructions result in data loss, the system downloads the next transmission of the requested CD and uses both transmissions to produce a good copy. In conjunction with the blanket transmission of more popular music, an automated CD manufacturing facility may be provided to manufacture CD's that are not frequently requested and distribute them by ground transportation.
Dynamic frequency allocation of satellite beams
A method and apparatus for operating one or more satellites in a non-geosynchronous orbit (NGSO) satellite constellation are disclosed. In some aspects, the satellite may allocate a first frequency band to a first beam, and may allocate a second frequency band to a second beam. Then, if the first beam is disabled, the satellite may re-map the first frequency band from the first beam to the second beam. In this manner, frequency resources initially allocated to a disabled beam may be re-mapping to another, non-disabled beam.
LOW POWER MODE IN A SATELLITE-BASED BROADCAST DATA SERVICE
A satellite system controller for a satellite system can comprise a receiving module, an interval selector, an epoch selector, and a scheduler. The receiving module can receive, from a transmission originator device, a set interval request message requesting the satellite system controller set a transmission interval and an epoch time for a satellite receiver, the transmission interval being an amount of time the satellite receiver is to remain in a sleep mode between expected transmissions and the epoch time being an instant at which the satellite receiver is to expect a satellite transmission. The interval selector can determine, based on the transmission interval, a sleep mode cycle for the satellite receiver. The epoch selector can select the epoch time according to the sleep mode cycle and the scheduler can schedule the satellite transmission with the satellite system at approximately the epoch time and according to the sleep mode cycle.
Receiver adjacent channel overload projection
A filter system that filters WCS signals received by a satellite radio antenna if the WCS signals have a high enough signal strength where they could overwhelm the satellite radio signals and prevent the satellite radio from operating. The filter system includes a coupling circuit that couples off a small portion of the signal received by the antenna and sends it to a detector that detects the signal strength of the coupled off portion of the signal. If the signal strength exceeds a predetermined threshold, the detector provides a control signal to a switch that directs the signal received by the antenna to a WCS filter to filter out the WCS signals, where the switch otherwise causes the signal received by the antenna to be sent directly to the radio.

Single-cable automatic IRD installation procedure
A method, apparatus, system, and computer program product for auto-installing an integrated receiver/decoder (IRD) includes issuing an auto-installation command from the IRD to an outdoor unit (ODU) and receiving a plurality of tones from the ODU in response to the auto-installation command, each tone representing a center frequency of available user bands (UBs). The auto-installation also includes acquiring a UB center frequency by the IRD, requesting the ODU to confirm a UB number corresponding to the acquired UB center frequency, and receiving confirmation from the ODU that a UB number corresponds to the acquired UB center frequency. The auto-installation also includes sending an acceptance of the assigned UB number from the IRD to signal the ODU that it may mark the assigned UB as assigned.
