A portable device uses a microphone to listen to ambient audio, ascertains a corresponding identifier, and uses the identifier to enable one or more further functions. One of these can be internet search. Such functionality can also be based on digital datawithout requiring a microphone-equipped device.

METHOD, SYSTEM AND APPARATUS FOR GRANTING LOCATION-BASED CREDENTIALS TO A DEVICE

A salient idea is to rely on the fact that a device at some point needs to be powered from an in-home power distribution network and that such a power distribution network, because of its fixed wired nature, may be used to uniquely identify and locate the power delivery point that a given device is powered from, and, by extension, where the device is located. It is proposed to create and leverage a unique identifier source, the signal of which is carried across a power distribution network (typically a domestic power installation). The source may be associated with the power meter of the customer premise, the location and unique identifier of this power meter are known by e.g. the utility provider. While being powered, a device receives this signal source carrying the unique identifier, which is representative of the customer location. The received identifier is further used in granting or denying access to services for that device, depending on whether it matches or not an identifier representative of the intended usage location.

Range extension for combined data and power line

An apparatus and a method for range extension for a combined data and power line are provided. Further, a bus system is provided. The design is based on a supply voltage that is transmitted via the combined data and power line being refreshed by a charge pump. Further, there may be provision, by way of example, for a data signal that is transmitted via the combined data and power line to be refreshed using the likewise transmitted supply voltage.

A sampling gate comprising a first frequency input coupled to a first frequency path from a broadband photodiode. The sampling gate also includes a positive bias input coupled to a positive offset portion of a second frequency path from the broadband photodiode. The sampling gate also includes a negative bias input coupled to a negative offset portion of the second frequency path from the broadband photodiode. The sampling gate combines a first frequency signal from the first frequency path and a second frequency signal from the second frequency path to create a combined broadband frequency signal from the broadband photodiode.
