Method for broadcasting protected multimedia contents
10200136 · 2019-02-05 · ·

A method for broadcasting protected multimedia content includes, at predetermined intervals, having an access-rights server broadcast each new right of access to the broadcast multimedia content only to those terminals whose logins are included in a broadcast list. In response to a predetermined event, a terminal sends, to the access-rights server, via a point-to-point connection, a status message indicating, to the access-rights server, that the terminal is in its ready state. Alternatively, if the terminal is occupied, it avoids sending a status message. In the absence of reception of the status message that was expected in response to the predetermined event, the access-rights server automatically removes the identifier of the terminal from the broadcast list.

Peer-to-peer emergency communication using public broadcasting

A method for emergency communication includes encoding a message for visual display including a message to field and a message from field. The visual display is revealed to a reading device in communication with a broadcast center, which stores the visual display. The messages are decoded and sorted from visual displays at the broadcast center. On an index channel, a time and channel number for when a message body of the message will be broadcast on a message channel is broadcasted. The message body is broadcasted on the message channel.

Apparatus and method for preventing switching from a channel during an advertisement display

An apparatus and method is disclosed for preventing a viewer from switching from a channel when an advertisement is being displayed on the channel. The apparatus and method comprises an advertisement controller in a video playback device that (1) prevents a viewer of a direct (non-recorded) broadcast from switching channels when an advertisement is displayed, and (2) prevents a viewer of a recorded program from fast forwarding the recorded program in order to skip past advertisements that were recorded with the program. A viewer may either watch the advertisements or pay a fee in order to be able to change channels or fast forward when the advertisements are being displayed.
