Measuring Video-Content Viewing
A computer-implemented method of using video program viewer interaction data that has been loaded to a media measurement database as input to a measurement engine which then calculates Linear, DVR, and VOD asset viewing activity at three levels: (a) Video Program, (b) Video Program Airing, (c) Video Program Airing Segment, where each level provides summary metrics for groupings of Demographic, Geographic, and/or Device Characteristic, and also second-by-second viewing metrics, including counting advertising impressions, within the Demographic, Geographic, Device groupings. System also accounts for reduced value of ad viewing when viewer is using trick plays or when viewer delays viewing recorded content. Together these metrics provide detailed information on customer viewing behavior which can be used to drive business decisions for service providers, advertisers and content producers. Additionally, a viewing histogram analysis is produced.
Transmission device, transmission method, reception device, and reception method
The present technology relates to a transmission device, a transmission method, a reception device, and a reception method that permit efficient transfer of time and other information. The transmission device generates a physical layer frame having preambles and a payload that includes, in the preamble, time information representing time of a given position in a stream of physical layer frames and transmits the physical layer frame. The reception device receives the physical layer frame and performs processes using time information. The present technology is applicable, for example, to IP packet broadcasting.
Content-modification system with broadcast schedule utilization feature
In one aspect, a method includes (i) receiving query fingerprint data representing content transmitted by a content-distribution system on a channel; (ii) comparing the received query fingerprint data with multiple reference fingerprint data sets, wherein each of the multiple reference fingerprint data sets corresponds with a different respective content segment; (iii) based on the comparing, detecting a respective match between the received query fingerprint data and reference fingerprint data in each of the multiple reference fingerprint data sets; (iv) accessing broadcast-schedule data associated with the channel; (v) using the accessed broadcast-schedule data to identify which one of the different respective content segments is being transmitted by the content-distribution system on the channel, thereby identifying a corresponding upcoming content modification opportunity on the channel; and (vi) performing an action to facilitate performing a content modification operation related to the identified upcoming content-modification opportunity on the channel.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PERSONALIZING USER EXPERIENCE BASED ON NOSTALGIA METRICS
A server system accesses a profile of a user of the media-providing service. The profile indicates a demographic group of the user. For each track of a plurality of tracks, the server system determines a year associated with the track. The server system selects content for the user based at least in part on an affinity of members of the demographic group, as compared to members of other demographic groups, of music from the year associated with the track. The server system provides the selected content to a client device associated with the user.

Broadcast signal transmitting apparatus and broadcast signal transmitting method
Provided is a method for transmitting a broadcast signal. The method for transmitting a broadcast signal, according to the present invention, can be a broadcast content transmitting method, comprising the steps of: generating, by a first module, a first media stream for broadcast content wherein the first media stream includes a plurality of packets, and at least one of the packets includes time information; generating, by a second module, a second media stream for the broadcast content; transmitting, by a third module, the first media stream through a broadcast network; receiving, by a fourth module, a request for the second media stream from a receiver; and transmitting, by the fourth module, the second media stream to the receiver through the Internet network.

System and method for management and delivery of secondary syndicated companion content of discovered primary digital media presentations
A system and method of providing secondary syndicated content on a client device includes detecting external Primary Source Content and Primary Source Content on the client device directly and identifying a Content Identifier and synchronization cue of the Primary Source Content on the client device. The method also includes subscribing to a channel associated with the Primary Source Content on the client device and generating and displaying secondary syndicated content on the client device as a function of the synchronization cue, such that the secondary syndicated content is synchronized to a current temporal segment of the Primary Source Content.
