SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING IN-SERVICE OPTICAL NETWORK CERTIFICATION
A system and method for performing an in-service optical time domain reflectometry test, an in-service insertion loss test, and an in-service optical frequency domain reflectometry test using a same wavelength as the network communications for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint optical fiber networks while maintaining continuity of network communications are disclosed.
Systems for improved spectral efficiency in multi-carrier communication systems
This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus for improving spectral efficiency of a communication system. The communication system can include a transmitter, a receiver and a communication link for communicating data between the transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter can employ a multi-carrier technique to transmit data to the receiver. The transmitter can generate a plurality of carrier signals using a receiver-side comb generator, one of which is sent to the transmitter as a pilot carrier signal combined with modulated carrier signals over an optical link. At the receiver the receiver-side comb generator uses the pilot carrier signal to generate a plurality of receiver-side carrier signals, which are used for detecting the modulated carrier signals. As the phase noise in the modulated carrier signals and the phase noise in the receiver-side carrier signals have the same characteristics, the phase noise is cancelled at the receiver, resulting in improved detection.
PHOTONIC PROCESSING SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Aspects relate to a photonic processing system, a photonic processor, and a method of performing matrix-vector multiplication. An optical encoder may encode an input vector into a first plurality of optical signals. A photonic processor may receive the first plurality of optical signals; perform a plurality of operations on the first plurality of optical signals, the plurality of operations implementing a matrix multiplication of the input vector by a matrix; and output a second plurality of optical signals representing an output vector. An optical receiver may detect the second plurality of optical signals and output an electrical digital representation of the output vector.

Management and control system of wavelength-multiplexed subranging electro-optic modulator (SEOM)s for high dynamic range applications
A method/system described herein addresses the intrinsic nonlinearity of electrooptic modulators and the restrictions placed on the signals dynamic range in applications such as data communication and sensing. Linear electro-optic modulation utilizing ring resonator electrooptic modulators is produced over a dramatically wider range of the input signal amplitude, which improves the dynamic range and the amount of information that is transmitted via laser light. A distributed and subranging design folds the large dynamic range across multiple linear subranges, with each subrange being addressed using a unique optical wavelength, or a unique optical fiber, or a unique free space path. The subrange within the wide dynamic range of the input signal is captured by the linear portion of the transfer function of a single transfer function. This enables the efficient use of optical links for the transmission and processing of analog and multilevel signals, overcoming the limitations that were hindering progress.
Continuous wave optical two-way time transfer
Embodiments herein describe a continuous wave two-way optical time two-way transfer system. The embodiments herein lock a local frequency comb to a clock (e.g., optical/microwave atomic clock, Fabry-Perot optical reference cavity, etc.) in a local platform. The platform then generates two CW optical signals with different frequencies and locks those optical signals to the local frequency comb. The local platform then transmits its two CW optical signals to a remote platform and receives CW optical signals (having approximately the same frequencies as the two CW optical signals generated by the local platform) from the remote platform. Based on comparing its local CW optical signals with the received CW optical signals, the local platform can determine a timing deviation between its clock and a clock in the second platform.
