In one aspect, a method useful for implementing high availability (HA) enhancements to a computer network, comprising the steps of: providing a first edge device of a local area network (LAN); providing a second edge device of the LAN; providing a gateway system to the LAN from a wide area network; detecting that an HA cable between the first edge device and the second edge device is disconnected; establishing a network connection between the gateway system and the second edge device; with the gateway system: determining that the first edge device is active and passing network traffic, implementing a network tunneling protocol with second edge device.

Systems and methods provide a unified collection service for a network. A first network device receives a data reporting message from a data reporting device. The data reporting message includes a first format for a particular data reporting device. The second network device transforms the encapsulated data reporting message into a second format that includes a unified message format and forwards, based on the routing data, the unified data reporting message.

Upon receiving a request from a client to a content and for specific attribute types and values, a tunnel is selected by the tunnel bank server, and is used as a tunnel for retrieving the required content from the web server, using standard protocol such as SOCKS, WebSocket or HTTP Proxy. The client only communicates with a super proxy server that manages the content fetching scheme.

Apparatus and methods for premises gateway functions that integrate or unify functions typically distributed across multiple devices within a content-based network. In one embodiment, the out-of-band (OOB) signaling functionality normally provided in each of a set-top-box (STB) and digital video recorder (DVR) are unified into a common OOB (e.g., DOCSIS) capable premises gateway device, thereby obviating OOB tuners and related components from each device. In another variant, the premises gateway is adapted for all-IP operation, such as for use with IP-based computers and IP set-top boxes, etc. Fully unified variants are also disclosed, wherein the DVR and/or STB functions are physically integrated within the premises gateway.
