Method and apparatus for providing electrical power to a broadband digital subscriber line access
Power is supplied to telecom equipment in DSLAM outdoor/remote cabinets with relatively short distances between the subscriber and the cabinet. All of the subscriber Customer Premises Equipment connected to the DSLAM each provide a portion of the required power to the remote cabinet via the telephone line connecting the DSLAM and the subscriber CPE. The CPE at the subscriber premises is already connected to power mains in the subscriber premises so, providing power, via the telephone line to the outdoor cabinet is relatively simple. The remote cabinet includes a circuit for receiving the power input from each subscriber and then distributing the power, required by the DSLAM load, equally among the subscribers.
ENCAPSULATION OF DATA PACKETS
Example embodiments describe a transmitter including data encapsulation circuitry configured to encapsulate data packets into Data Transport Units, DTUs, for further transmission over a communication medium. The data packets have respective Quality of Service, QoS, tolerances. The data encapsulation circuitry is configured to delay transmission of first data packets with a lower QoS tolerance and to group the first data packets in a subset of DTUs available for transportation of the first data packets.
SMALL CELL BACKHAUL
Apparatus and methods for providing small cell backhaul are disclosed. A network node that acts as a gateway for a local communication network to a main communication network through a bonded link with the main communication network also provides a wireless communication module with a backhaul communication link to the main communication network through its bonded link. A switch module in the network node switches communication traffic between the local communication network, the wireless communication module and the bonded link to the main communication network. The network node may power the wireless communication module utilizing remote power provided by the main communication network, the local communication network, and/or a local source of power. Apparatus and methods for providing a transparent bonded link through a network access multiplexer are also disclosed, including management of the bonded link and of nodes subtending from the bonded link.
Line synchronization method in OSD system, system, and vectoring control entity
A line synchronization method in an overlapped spectrum duplex (OSD) system having K pairs of communications lines. Each pair of communications lines includes an uplink and a downlink. The method includes synchronizing downstream synchronization symbols of downlinks in the pairs of communications lines, and separately synchronizing an upstream synchronization symbol of an uplink of each pair of communications lines with a downstream synchronization symbol of a downlink of each pair of communications lines. The method may be applied to crosstalk channel estimation to distinguish near-end crosstalk (NEXT) and far-end crosstalk (FEXT) crosstalk channels when upstream and downstream spectrums are overlapped.

Systems and methods for operating a termination device of an access communication network
A method for operating a termination device of an access communication network includes (a) performing, at the termination device, a first start-up procedure, (b) after performing the first start-up procedure, detecting, at the termination device, presence of a communication signal meeting one or more predetermined criteria, and (c) in response to detecting presence of the communication signal meeting the one or more predetermined criteria, performing, at the termination device, a second start-up procedure that is different from the first start-up procedure.
EDGE OPTIMIZED TRANSRATING SYSTEM
A system and method for bandwidth management by controlling the bit rate of a signal stream in real time according to available link bandwidth. Applications include multiple-channel video data streams over a limited-bandwidth link such as a Digital Subscriber Line. A video signal is transrated at the head end to multiple streams having different bit rates, by a multirating device which sends the multiple streams over a network, along with metadata containing information about the data structure and parameters of the streams. At the network access edge, a demultirating device uses the metadata to select the stream with the highest video quality whose bit rate does not exceed the available bandwidth of the end-user's access link. This scheme provides multiple unicast signals to different end-users in place of a single multicast signal, supports multiple high-definition channels over a limited bandwidth link, and is compatible with standard encryption methods.

Digital ADSL regenerator device with adaptive data forwarding
Regenerator devices (30) for use with Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connections are disclosed which forward user data received in a modulated signal from one link (L1) of a DSL connection on to another link (L2) of the DSL connection. Such devices comprise a first transceiver module (302) which receives a modulated signal from the first link and demodulates it whereby to obtain user data, and a second transceiver module (306) which receives the user data obtained by the first transceiver module and transmits a modulated signal carrying it on to the other link. The device further comprises a performance analyzer (308) which obtains performance information in respect of the second link, and a profile management processor (307) which determines a profile to be applied in respect of the second link in dependence on the performance information obtained in respect thereof. An access net work including one or more such devices and associated methods are also disclosed.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONFIGURATING TRANSMISSION MODE IN COPPER WIRE BASED NETWORK
A method for configurating a transmission mode to provide an Internet service to a customer-premises equipment by an transmission mode configurating apparatus in an access network structure is provided. At least one network management equipment and at least one customer-premises equipment are connected through a bundle of cables including a plurality of transmission lines. The method includes determining the number of transmission lines connected to the customer-premises equipment; determining at least one of available transmission mode to provide depending on the number of transmission lines; if a plurality of available transmission modes are determined, calculating a transmission performance in each of the available transmission modes; and selecting the transmission mode with the highest performance among the plurality of the available transmission modes.
