Power efficient metadata transport signaling mechanism for codec control and configuration

A compressed over pulse-code modulation (PCM) (CoP) format (e.g., for data transfer between a Bluetooth component and an audio digital signal processor (ADSP) component) may be modified to transport additional metadata (e.g., sideband data). Sideband data may be transported to convey parameter control information (e.g., control information for codec parameter control interfaces, such as information for quality mode changes), in band data (e.g., data specific parameters, such as timestamps for playback timing control and synchronization purposes), etc. Sideband data may be transported (e.g., communicated) over an interface between a Bluetooth component and an ADSP component while an applications processor is operating in a low power state or sleep mode. According to some aspects, the modified CoP format (e.g., a sideband packet) may include a sideband identification (ID) field and a sideband data payload (e.g., where the sideband ID field indicates the structure of a corresponding sideband data payload).

Interface for Bridging Out-of-Band Information from a Downstream Communication Link to an Upstream Communication Link
20200278942 · 2020-09-03 ·

A device includes a first interface to receive a signal from a first communication link, wherein the receive signal includes out-of-band (OOB) information. A detector coupled to the first interface detects the OOB information. An encoder coupled to the detector encodes the OOB information into one or more symbols (e.g., control characters). A second interface is coupled to the encoder and a second communication link (e.g., a serial transport path). The second interface transmits the symbols on the second communication link. The device also includes mechanisms for preventing false presence detection of terminating devices.

High spectral efficiency data communications system using encoded sinusoidal waveforms
10764101 · 2020-09-01 · ·

A system and method for waveform modulation includes encoding input digital data at selected phase angles of an unmodulated sinusoidal waveform. The encoding includes selectively reducing a power of the unmodulated sinusoidal waveform at the selected phase angles in accordance with bit values of the input digital data so as to respectively define first, second, third and fourth data notches in the modulated sinusoidal waveform. An encoded analog waveform is then generated from a digital representation of the modulated sinusoidal waveform. The encoding is performed so that energies associated with the first and third data notches are balanced and energies associated with second and fourth data notches are also balanced. Each of the energies corresponds to a cumulative power difference between a power of the unmodulated sinusoidal waveform and a power of the modulated sinusoidal waveform over a phase angle range subtended by one of the data notches.

Self referenced single-ended chip to chip communication

A system and method for efficiently transporting data in a computing system are contemplated. In various embodiments, a computing system includes a source, a destination and multiple lanes between them for transporting data. Multiple receivers in the destination has a respective termination resistor connected to a single integrating capacitor, which provides a reference voltage to the multiple receivers. The receivers reconstruct the received data by comparing the corresponding input signals to the reference voltage. The source includes a table storing code words. The source maps a generated data word to a code word, which is sent to the destination. The destination maps the received code word to the data word. The values of the code words are selected to maintain a nearly same number of Boolean ones on the multiple lanes over time as a number of Boolean zeroes.
