PACKET HEADER FIELD EXTRACTION
Some embodiments provide a method for processing a packet for a pipeline of a hardware switch. The pipeline, in some embodiments, includes several different stages that match against packet header fields and modify packet header fields. The method receives a packet that includes a set of packet headers. The method then populates, for each packet header in the set of packet headers, (i) a first set of registers with packet header field values of the packet header that are used in the pipeline, and (ii) a second set of registers with packet header field values of the packet header that are not used in the pipeline.
Automotive packet data switch with pipeline diversity
Embodiments of a method and device are disclosed. In an embodiment, an in-vehicle network interface device includes a data port to send and receive data packets, a plurality of packet processing pipelines coupled to the data port, each to inspect a single data packet to determine an action to perform on the single data packet, and a safety module to receive the determined action from each packet processing pipeline and to select one of the determined actions to perform on the single data packet and to cause a selected one of the packet processing pipelines to perform the selected action.

Method and system for propagating network traffic flows between end points based on service and priority policies
A method and system for processing network traffic is disclosed. The method includes receiving one or more service policies from a control plane service. For each of service policies, a value pattern is generated using at least one of a source group data item and a destination group data item, and a pattern mask is generated on subset of bit locations in the value pattern. The method includes updating a lookup table to incorporate each of the one or more service policies that entails allocating memory for consolidating a new entry in a portion of the lookup table designated for control plane policies. The new entry includes a binding relating the value pattern and the pattern mask to a lookup table result, and the lookup table result specifies a traffic flow instruction and a priority level included in a service policy of the one or more service policies.
Search instruction to access a TCAM and memory to return a program counter value from the TCAM
This application provides an instruction processing method and a chip. The method includes sending, by the thread unit, a search instruction to the search engine unit. The search instruction includes a data address and a first search field, and the thread unit switches from a RUN state to a WAIT state. The method also includes receiving, by the thread unit, data and a program counter that are sent by the search engine unit. The thread unit switches from the WAIT state to the RUN state.
System and method for adapting a packet processing pipeline
An apparatus for forwarding packets includes a packet processing pipeline having a processing unit that processes packets compliant with a recognized communication protocol. A first port coupled to the packet processing pipeline is configured to receive a packet that does not comply with the recognized communication protocol and has a header that conforms to a second communication protocol. A data extraction unit extracts first destination information from the header of the packet and, based on the first destination information, generates second destination information that conforms to the recognized communication protocol. The processing unit determines, based on the second destination information, an egress interface to which the packet is to be forwarded.

Content routing in an IP network
A method of routing a packet in a network is described. The network includes a plurality of nodes implementing Information Centric Networking (ICN) routing or content centric networking and routing. The method includes receiving the packet at a node implementing ICN routing, the packet comprising an Internet Protocol (IP) header and a packet payload, wherein the packet comprises a request packet for requesting content from the network. The method further includes extracting from the packet payload a content identifier for the requested content and forwarding the packet to a next hop node in the network based on the content identifier extracted from the packet payload.
Identifying components for removal in a network configuration
Systems, methods, and computer-readable media analyzing memory usage in a network node. A network assurance appliance may be configured to determine a hit count for a concrete level rule implemented on a node and identify one or more components of a logical model, wherein each of the one or more components are associated with the concrete level rule. The network assurance appliance may attribute the hit count for the concrete level rule to each of the components of the logical model, determine a number of hardware level entries associated with the each of the one or more components, and generate a report comprising the one or more components of the logical model, the hit count attributed to each of the one or more components of the logical model, and the number of hardware level entries associated with the one or more components of the logical model.
