20210135997 · 2021-05-06 ·

Systems and methods of classifying data flows being communicated on a network by one or more network elements. One method includes creating a table including information of packet timestamps and pre-defined packet header fields, grouping packets into data flows based on information in the table, assigning flow identifiers to each data flow, determining a plurality of feature/characteristic sets having one or more features and/or one or more characteristics of the data flows, determining one or more classifiers to predict flow labels using the plurality of feature/characteristic sets, and generating a classification policy that includes the one or more classifiers to classify data flows on the network. The method can also include storing the classification policy in at least one non-transitory computer medium that is accessible by a network element that is classifying data flows on the network, and using the classification policy to classify data flows.

Interface advisory information may be provided asynchronously to assist in low latency operation.

TRANSMITTING APPLICATION DATA USING DIFFERENT QOS SPECIFICATIONS
20210119724 · 2021-04-22 ·

A telecommunication network associated with a wireless telecommunication provider can be configured to transmit application data using different quality of service (QoS) specifications. In some configurations, data, other than voice and video data, can be transmitted using VoLTE or ViLTE data streams. According to some examples, network hardware and/or software (e.g., in the core network of a telecommunications network), and/or an application on the UE (smartphone, tablet, etc.) may translate data to be compatible with the VoLTE or ViLTE specifications. The translated data is transmitted from the device to the telecommunications network as a VoLTE or ViLTE packet stream. The converted packets may be identified (e.g., a unique digital signature) so that the corresponding hardware and software in the MSO can identify that a stream of VoLTE or ViLTE packets is to be converted back into the native format of the application before being routed to a destination.

Method and Apparatus for QED for Private Enterprise Networks
20230412474 · 2023-12-21 ·

A method and apparatus is disclosed that provides improved techniques and metrics used to improve the Quality of Experience Delivered (QED) for use in Private Enterprise networks. The method and apparatus provides normalized metrics used for assessing all service types for performance. Focus is placed on latent scores and allowing for a range of acceptable operational scores. Observation points are identified and metrics collection is performed at the ingress and egress points for functional/application/node/service levels. Assessment based on packet sizes groups is enabled, rather than as an aggregate for better understanding of the tunability of the application layer for improved service. Burstiness of the traffic is gauged to allow for improved scheduling in the RAN. Individual deployments are adapted to assess G and assess S and V for end-to-end performance management.

The present invention provides according to one of its aspects a method of queueing a data frame in one of a plurality of traffic queues at a communication station for transmission over a communication channel in a communication network comprising a plurality stations and an access point (AP). The method comprising selecting a traffic queue based on at least one of 1) a transmission mode, direct link or uplink, of the data frame, and 2) a transmission mode of the traffic queue; and queueing the data frame in the selected traffic queue. The transmission mode of the traffic queue may be a Multi-User (MU) uplink (UL) mode if a data frame previously stored in the traffic queue has been transmitted, since a predetermined period of time, in a resource unit (RU) provided by the AP within a transmission opportunity granted to the AP on the communication channel. The transmission mode may also be a Single-User (SU) mode.

Quality of service class indicator structure and corresponding controllers and control methods

A quality of service (QoS) class indicator (QCI) structure is provided, wherein the QCI structure is arranged to control communication in a communication network and to classify data flows in the communication network, and wherein the QCI structure comprises: an identifier of a provider of an industry vertical and/or of a service in the communication network; and a QoS parameter set for the provider of the industry vertical and/or of the service. A QoS central controller is configured to manage QoS classes in the communication network according to the QCI structure. Each one of one or more QoS sub-network controllers is arranged to configure devices in a respective sub-network of the communication network according to the QCI structure.
