A technique includes determining a first set of intra-node port weights for a first switch of a first routing node, determining a set of inter-node port weights including a first inter-node port weight for routing traffic to a second routing node, determining a first inter-node weighted port group for the first switch for traffic directed to the second routing node, the first inter-node weighted port group including a first total port weight based on a first intra-node port weight and the first inter-node port weight and which is applied to a first port of the first switch, and a second total port weight based on a second intra-node port weight and the first inter-node port weight and which is applied to the second port of the first switch, and routing traffic to an output port of the first switch based on the first inter-node weighted port group.

Multi-protocol service chaining among devices of interconnected topology

Virtual network controllers are described that automatically generate policies and configuration data for routing traffic through physical network function (PNF) service chains in a multi-tenant data center. An example network controller includes a memory and processing circuitry configured to: automatically generate, for one or more integrated routing and bridging (IRB) units of corresponding virtual network forwarding tables of a switch of a switch fabric of a data center network, configuration information that, when deployed, causes the IRB units to direct data traffic conforming to multiple communication protocols and flowing over a plurality of virtual networks between a first set of server devices and a second set of server devices positioned outside of the switch fabric (i) toward a service device logically positioned outside of the switch fabric and coupled to the switch, and (ii) back from the service device into the switch fabric via the switch.

Physical network orchestration for data centers

A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes creating a segment organization, which includes a configuration profile. The method also includes attaching the configuration profile to a server in the segment organization. The method further includes sending the attached configuration profile to a database in a physical network.
