Various embodiments of the invention disclosed herein provide techniques for frame-accurate navigation of a media file. A multi-pass encoding application executing on a media content server encodes a set of file-based images associated with a media file using a first set of encoding parameters to generate a first encoded media file. The multi-pass encoding application encodes the first encoded media file using a second set of encoding parameters to generate a second encoded media file. The first encoded media file and second encoded media file are stored on the media content server and/or or other media content servers. Content delivery applications executing on these media content servers receive a request associated with the media file from a web browsing application, determine a type of the web browsing application, and transmit either the first encoded media file or the second encoded media file based on the type of web browsing application.

A decoding complexity may be used to predict power consumption for receiving, decoding, and/or displaying multimedia content at a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The decoding complexity may be based on decoding complexity feedback received from a reference device, such as another WTRU. The decoding complexity feedback may be based on measurements performed at the reference device for receiving decoding, and/or displaying the multimedia content. A content providing device may indicate the decoding complexity of requested media content to a WTRU, or another network entity. The decoding complexity may be indicated in a streaming protocol or file associated with the media content. The WTRU, or other network entity, may use the decoding complexity determine its preferences regarding transmission of the media content. The content providing device may determine whether to transmit the media content based on the decoding complexity and/or the preferences of the WTRU or other network entity.

Methods and systems for transforming and delivering a digital asset are disclosed. A request is received from an application client incorporated into a memory on one of the one or more user devices and being executed by the one or more processors. The request includes a request for the digital asset and specifies a data format for the digital asset. Source data associated with the requested digital asset is located. The source data describes the digital asset. The source data is transformed in substantially real-time. The transforming includes modifying the source data into a data format consistent with the data format specified in the request. The transformed data is sent to the user device for use in the application client.

Unified end-to-end quality and latency measurement, optimization and management in multimedia communications

Correlated quality-of-experience (QoE) and latency measures are generated at a plurality of monitoring points along a multimedia delivery chain including multiple video operations. At each of the plurality of monitoring points, an absolute QoE measure defined on a human perceptual quality scale for media content is computed, and one or more of content extraction or feature extraction on the media content are performed. To a common middleware from each of the plurality of monitoring points, the respective QoE measure and results of the one or more of content extraction or feature extraction are transmitted. Computing and updating an absolute QoE measure for each of the plurality of monitoring points is performed. Computing and updating latencies between multiple monitoring points at the middleware using the results from each of the plurality of monitoring points is also performed.
